Got rid of cable TV this Saturday (cut the cord) and the optical cable I had hooked up to the cable box needs to go directly to the TV. I'm getting IPTV (PlayStation Vue) over an Amazon Fire TV device that only has HDMI out. My receiver (however nice it is) is old enough not the have HDMI. To keep that clean look I run all my cables from my TV in the wall. However, the 10ft. optical audio cable that is now going directly from the TV to the receiver is too short and has to dangle straight down to reach the receiver. Ugly. Hence the new cable.

Oh that reminds me I ordered an optical audio cable and the optical converters for both ends, I need to set that up some time. My PCs are in the basement and have long audio cables running up but they pick up lot of interference so going optical should fix that. Though I should probably get a small mixer board to mix the two PCs into the one signal. Right now I'm doing it by simply splicing the wires together, so kinda dirty.

And the cable he is holding up doesn't have aluminium shielding, that is just plastic strand weaved together.

Should have gotten a hdim switch with sp/dif breakout. Monoprice sells one.

Incorrect. It's a metal mesh weave. Not for shielding. It does make it more durable though. No gold connectors. That would be stupid as it adds no functionality.
