Yeah I hate Linux dependency hell. That's one thing that needs a MAJOR cleanup in Linux, the way stuff gets installed. Yeah they have package managers, problem is you need a package for that exact distro, which is not always available, or the one that's available is too old. There needs to be a more universal way of dealing with software installation that is not distro dependent.

That's one thing that's nice in Windows, you can have a binary and it just runs. You can't do that in Linux since a binary only runs in the same or similar environment it was compiled in. So they are not portable.

yeah but there should be a way to install missing packages if they are dependencies. Cmake can ID them, so why not install them?

Yeah you'd think. You should be able to drop the packages in a certain folder and they all install as needed.

But I would really like to see a way to generate a universal binary that works on all systems, and all the dependencies built in. Would make software distribution SO much easier. I don't really blame software companies for not wanting to support Linux because currently it's a mess. You would need a dedicated team just to package it for every single distro.

But that would never happen as I think the point of all this is to force people to code open source. While I kind of agree with that, I still feel it should not be forced.

They finally upgraded the transformer in the corner of our back yard, well the neighbors, but on the border. We used to have many incidents with critters, etc, and had to have the fuse replaced on it about once ever couple months when it exploded.

I really have to wonder how many folks really know what a transformer does!
99% of the videos that use the word transformer (and some other adjective describing something a transformer is NOT supposed to do) don't!
Fact is transformers rarely "blow up". They are quite safe in that regard. The worst case scenario is when a secondary fault is allowed to continue long enough for the oil to boil, increase internal pressure and vent. And if the arc fault is nearby it ignites creating a huge fireball and often secondary fires.

A transformer BLEVE event would be bad for sure.

Haha that sounds familiar. Before they trimmed the trees in my area I used to hear that a lot, followed by the beeping of UPSes around the house. First time it happened I had just turned on my protable AC unit and I thought I tripped a breaker in my house then realize power was out to the whole house, so I went outside to check the meter and it was off too... what a coincidence.

Was interesting to watch them replace the fuse with a long pole. Can "feel" the power coming back as they push it in place. BZZZZRRRRURRRnnnnt throughout the whole house. Probably really bad for electronics... One time there was a weird power fault and power kept coming on/off at couple minute intervals, I started to unplug stuff like the TV because it was starting to do weird things like turning on by itself. Thankfully my server UPS is smart enough to stay on UPS power for about 30 seconds when it takes a hit, so that one was fine. Some of the smaller APCs are really trigger happy about switching back to commercial AC too fast and the equipment sees the dirty power created by it coming back on. I still want to do a dual conversion setup for my server room some day though. Then later on add solar to it.

It had gotten pretty overgrow with vines. They trimmed it out recently and replaced a few things. I think I have watched them hook a new fuse in there so may times over the decades with the pole I could almost do it myself pretty easily these days
