I managed to get the files back, had to specify the new path to the mv and cp command to get the command to work. I'm lucky the execute permissions were still intact. Linux permissions are fucked like that, when you move files around they may or may not change.

Managed to put everything back, but I'm nervous about rebooting as I can almost guarantee not all the permissions match properly now, and it may be an issue as some files may not be accessible or what not.

ok, no big deal. That tip is old. Changed the tip and still wouldn't heat all the way up.

But when I'm getting the stuff around to change the element, the CFO comes and says he needs my help in the warehouse. FUCK! OK...not like I have anything else to get done.

finally get the warehouse shit done and tear apart my iron to replace the element. The sent the wrong element!

So I go to plan Z, I have the old iron. I fire that up but now because the solder got hot and cold so many times, its not doing shit. I scrape away as much as I can then plaster on a layer of chip quik. I melted the shit out of that, removed what I could, then finally got the battery replaced.

Put the terminal back together and it doesn't work. It ticks. It sounds like a stupid clock.

Almost 6 hours into my day and nothing is done.
