mowed lawn

I just finished doing the same thing. Feels good when it's freshly cut. It did not badly need to be done this time as I did not procrastinate and just did it. So it did a better job.

I also hate using weed whackers. I did not bother last time but given it was the first mow of the season i really should have. So this time I did.

My experience usually consists of the following:

1: unroll extension cords, untangle and stretch from the only freaking plug I have outside to the start location.

2: Start trimming.

3: Line jams inside, spend half an hour trying to get the thing to come out and then string it back into the little hole

4: continue trimming

5: run out of line

6: remove the thing and go in garage to reel some more line. The knot I do keeps undoing itself and the whole thing unwinds, deal with that a few times till it finally stays.

7: Put it back on the machine. While trying to get it in, line unwinds again.

8: Repeat 6-7 1 or 4 times

9: Finish trimming (by this time there's literally like 5 feet left)

10: job done!

Then start mowing.

I still have lot of dandelions to remove as I only did the front lawn today and only went for the big ones. Figured I may as well just do a bit at a time and over the course of a few weeks they'll be all gone. I suppose I could get weed man, but they're not THAT bad, so I can manage to do them without chemicals.

Last year I bought a battery-powered trimmer. It's fantastic. Used to have one of the corded ones, pain in the ass. Now I also have a battery-powered lawnmower. Nice to have maintenace-free, hassle-free equipment. Makes doing the work much more enjoyable,

I don't use the weed whacker much anymore. My tips for you:

  • Get a gas weed whacker, electric ones are a disaster
  • Use round-up on most areas you normally have to weed whack and you only have to weed whack a couple times a year.

Gas powered is even a bigger hassle. Also be careful with round-up, it will kill anything and everything it touches.

battery powered ones are okay for a small lot, though they don't last very long compared to a gas

I guess it depends how much you have to use it on. I only use mine around edges and objects that the mower can't get close enough to.
well i'm talking a 40 acre property with a lot of fences, but even a 1 acre property has enough weed whacking to justify a gas over electric
