Little tip: Buy high quality items when you are employed. They will survive unemployment. And not toys that obsolete in a year, like phones & crap. Good clothing, accessories (hats, gloves, umbrellas) and especially shoes. Good walking shoes, running, dress, and fancy leather moccasins.
Maybe furniture, but keep in mind you have to move it if you change jobs and go somewhere new. I made that mistake. Big fancy oak dresser. Weighs a lot. 3 men to move it. 3 flights of stairs. Added cost. Not smart.
