"August 13, 2008 - Time to hit the scales.
As you may remember, we weighed the car when we started this project. At that time, it was 2349 lbs with 51.4% of the weight on the front wheels. That's with a naturally aspirated engine, no turbo.
Now, we're at 2536 with 52.6% on the front. We have added slightly heavier wheels (4 lbs total) and the front sway bar isn't installed yet (10 lbs). But the car's gained less than 200 lbs, 62 of which ended up on the rear wheels.
Looking back at when Elvis ran the Superfour Challenge with a big turbo and water injection, he crossed the scales at 2530 lbs and 51.9% front weight."

Oh, that's not so bad. The overall weight doesn't concern me much, the balance is a little more troublesome, but 52.6 isn't awful.

I don't understand why my father is so adamantly against premium fuel cars, and doesn't even believe them - the computer can adjust to counter pinging, so he thinks it's just fine to run regular in them. My mother thinks premium fuel cars are a bad idea too.

Doesn't faze me. I've been putting premium into my G for a couple months now, and I'm happier with it - it doesn't smell terrible when I get into the throttle real heavy.

I think part of it is his attitude towards cars... as in, he'll get the cheapest tires possible, try to downsize them if he can, looks for used tires, that sort of thing. Xenon bulbs burn down over time, but he won't replace them unless they flat out stop working, which they rarely do.

He's griping out the Maxima's tires. 245/45R18. He wants 17, or preferably 16 (except the brakes won't fit 16), and thinks the tires are really wide/low/tall, so they're expensive. Yes, they are a bit pricey, but they're also good tires, and a major part of the reason the car handles so well. *shrug* I don't get it.

"18 runs later, they agreed that it was a whole lot of fun on the autocross course. The venue was a race put on by the local Corvette club - it seemed appropriate!
The speed of the car is deceptive until you have something to measure it against. The accelerator does a lot more than it does in most Miatas, that's for sure! The handling was perfect, other than the option of power oversteer at any time the car handled just like a Miata.
Needless to say, one of them took the fastest time of the day. The other was less than 0.3 seconds behind. The fastest Corvette was nearly 5 seconds slower."

Nope. The total weight gain is under 200 lbs, and 1/3 of that is on the rear wheels. This means the final weight and balance is very similar to a turbo Miata. The combination of the all-aluminum engine and pushing the drivetrain to the rear as far as possible makes this happen.

Well, my 200 pound increase estimate was pretty good, but I couldn't properly account for sprung mass distribution. That's really not terrible.

The bad news... it's expensive. LSx motor, L4 or T series transmission. New cooling, new mounting, frame stiffening, firewall and transmission tunnel metalwork (derp!), wiring, ECU, everything.

And then it needs suspension work. Lower springs to compensate for the higher center of gravity, slightly stiffer front springs to compensate for the forward weight, stiffer sway bars to counter the higher CG's increased roll... and that's just compensation suspension. Improvements to stock performance aren't included - that'd be a longer list.
