why would you need that?

I'm having trouble getting the onboard sound to work on a friend's hackintosh. He asked for digital out via optical or HDMI. Both seem like too much work. Looking into how much another solution would cost

there should be onboard digital out no?

I doubt this box is going to be any easier to work on hackintosh

It's plug and play. OS X recognizes it instantly.

Onboard does have digital but the kext i used only seems to work on the analog jacks

must be some setting issues more than anything else.

No mac comes with Via sound chips. You have to hack in Linux drivers or some generic driver. Tried the linux drivers and I don't get digital. I don't want to mess with generic drivers.
