It's not all that surprising though, for a long time in school, my friends were a year or two older than me. We had vastly more in common than I did with those my own age, and, at such young ages, a single year made a substantial difference in intelligence and maturity, which further made them a better fit for me.

And, for now, someone older has a little more life experience, which helps make it a more balanced match with my intellect to sustain any kind of a friendship.

Yeah, I'm not especially humble with regards to my intelligence.

Considering all the people I've known, for those within a year of my age, or younger, I've met only one person who was more intelligent than me, and two to four that would be equals. In this instance, "met" implies an encounter with enough time to gauge their mental abilities roughly.

Oh, and that two to four? Yeah, two of those possibilities are related to me. It runs in the family.

So yeah, there was a reason I got along so well with older students and teachers, but not those of my own age, at least until they grew up enough that thinking wasn't a bad thing.
