So, I'm done with helping her and she made a big mistake. These were very nice positions. My guess was that she would've gained $15K+ when you consider salary increases, benefit increases, and the fact that she won't be driving as much to her job.

She is the idiot that also works like 45 miles away. Her boss asked her to transfer to another store in downtown Indy. It would've been 6 miles away and she could've shaped that store up and used it as a feather in her cap. Not to mention that her old POS car broke down and she could only afford another old car, which is probaby going to croak soon.

Think she would take it? NO! Of course not!

I DARE her to send another email asking for help. DARE HER. I'll copy the whole fucking distribution group on my response.

Of course, the last person I went to bat for a job here got hired and was then fired a few weeks later. :( I am still stinging from that one because she basically got the job because of me.

And of course, she has time to do all sorts of stupid, worthless things which aren't helping her cause -- like painting birdhouses for charity (WTF) and working stupid jobs on the weekend which give her little money and even less applicable experience (she works at obscure museums on the weekend).

I will. I won't be rude. I will simply say something like:

Dear [Wife's Friend],

I can appreciate the situation you are in, but I've given you advice on numerous occasions and have forwarded you very attractive job opportunities with an offer of me personally recommending you to the Executive VP and HR. You have chosen to ignore all of my help, so please remove me from future emails regarding your job search.

Thanks

I have never been so embarrassed in my entire professional career. She had completely changed from when I worked with her at my last company and was extremely negative and bitchy. I saw her being fired coming and begged with her to shut the fuck up and she wouldn't listen and kept saying she was "proud of herself" for "sticking up for herself." She wasn't so "proud of herself" when she got fired and I told her I never, ever wanted to hear the words "I am proud of myself" in relation to a job again since she was presumably an adult and not a fucking 6 year old.

Anyway, when my friend got fired, I let her vent for a couple of weeks and she blamed everything and everyone. Once things calmed down and the dust settled, I wrote her a long email and basically ripped her a new one -- tactfully and diplomatically, of course -- and told her that honestly, I would've fired her too.

But back to the wife's friend -- she REALLY blew it. Had she applied and gotten this position, she would be connecting with LOTS of industry heavyweights and media giants and the networking opportunities were unimaginable.

Even if it wasn't her "dream job" or making $70K/yr, all she had to do was stick it out for a few years and she could've moved on.

She went into debt for an MBA when she didn't have to

Yes, and people tried to tell her a) to accept every penny of tuition reimbursement and b) not to even get an MBA. She didn't listen to anyone. She likes to pretend she is some great intellectual and obviously, life skills isn't one of her intellectual skills. Her rack is sure nice though. :D
