My ships just deviated from their course line by about 10 pixels... and since apparently, the graphical rendering is more important than the set course line, they got burned by being too close to a planet, despite the course line being a safe path.

An interesting conundrum. A defense planet and a mine planet shrouding each other.

Combine the strategy for attacking a defense planet shrouded planet, which is to say, encircle and come in en masse from the short side, doesn't work well with a mine planet, nor with my decreasing patience level.

The traditional mine killer strategy, direct spawn route from naval planets, doesn't work when flying through a defense planet.

So... route the freshly spawned ships to encircle the pair, and pour onto the mine layer until they punch through. Then it's over.
