I am starting to think that if BD doesn't pan out, it might be a wiser investment to go with an i5-2500K instead of the i7-2600K.

@Indy, when is BD supposed to release?

September. I had set a deadline of this past Monday to decide on an upgrade (no reliable BD benchmarks meant I'd buy an i7-2600K), but I think I am going to wait it out.

I realized today that had I gone with a quad core when I built my current PC in 2008, I probably would not be upgrading until the end of next year.

My q6600 is still doing pretty decent, but I'm hoping to upgrade early next year. Should be a good upgrade, waiting about 4 series by the time I do rather than piece meal updates.

At the time, I don't believe any game used more than 2 cores and I thought having faster cores was more important than more cores. I was probably right at the time but those additional cores would have saved me in BF3.

Maybe I ought to put the Q6600 in my rig and move the E8400 to the server.....

Exactly the same thing I thought when I got my CPU.
