I can't remember where I ever found the torque output curves for cylinder configurations.

Think vaguely like sine waves.
 
They're like sine waves, except the amplitudes show the instantaneous torque. So the x-axis becomes the average torque value over a brief segment, and the amplitude shows the instantaneous torque that creates the average torque value.

With it, it showed that the peak and trough values for a four were much further from average values than with a six, and eight related to six similarly. The more cylinders, the smoother the power delivery. Which is, of course, an incredibly self-evident result.
 
I still haven't gotten to drive a V8 RWD, ever. Well, other than a truck, and that's nowhere close.

The V8 FWD was an absolutely shitty car with a magnificent LS4 derived short block transverse-mount linked to a four (or maybe five) speed slushbox. The car got somewhere around 270 FWHP, which, although not that imposing - considering a G37 can get the same figure (albeit AWHP or RWHP), along with several other extremely modern V6's - came with a very wide and flat torque curve of a similar figure, and the power response on tap was huge.

It was a little... sluggish? Reluctant? It's not like most 6's and 4's that rev up fast, downshift at the drop of a hat, etc. It revs up slowly, and it rarely downshifts - it obviously has more rotating mass, which would affect it, but perhaps it was significantly overstroked (very likely), which I know improves low RPM performance at the cost of peak RPM operation. But if peak RPM operation has been curbed, then it may also indicate the motor is vulnerable to high impulse?
 
Oh, and maintenance on a RWD would be cheaper than AWD, and easier than FWD and AWD.

It's nice to have an engine bay that doesn't look like the motor was dropped from thirty feet to make it fit.
 
And getting power to ground is again, easier, because it's simpler to fit wider tires across the rear, unlike FWD (turning arcs, restrictive wheel wells), or AWD (it's all gotta match, see FWD).
 
Bah. This ended in frustration. This scene is wildly hard to light, and render times are approaching 3 hours. Feel like there's tons of potential for an awesome render here, but I just can't get it right 😡
