Hahaha no....

Carbide lamps are combustion devices. They use a charger that drops calcium carbide into water. This produces acetylene which is then vented from the vessel and burned producing a very white flame. They were used for auto lighting in the 20s and miner's headlamps.

I recommend anyone that likes to play with mechanical things to acquire one through the usual channels and play with it. :cool:

How long do they last on average? Given the mechanism they work off of I'm surprised they are/were used where long lasting light is required.

If maintained they can last a long time. The key is maintenance! Neglected they will fail rather quickly.

My ISP won't let me get to my websites via IP. (all the same IP)
But I can get to them via the domain name. Fuck the site I was working on didn't have a domain yet.

It comes up fine on 3G. My laptop directly connected with no router doesnt work.

I'm guessing it's my ISP
