They are haha. I like how they get along but are totally different characters too.

Black one look like a slimmer version of my wife's cat Midnight. Unfortunately, I am allergic to cats. It was fine when we were dating - I just took some allergy medicine. After 6 months of marriage I just couldn't take it anymore. Was tough saying goodbye to her an our other cat Jesse (who I swore had some mental disability).

If we had a fenced in yard, we'd get a dog (less allergic to those). But it's a small city lot with a 3 car driveway, and putting a fence in would make snow cleanup hard because of the the layout. Hmm, I probably post something like this every year.

I've looked at shelter dogs - way too many pit bull's and pit bull mixes. After watching my old neighbor's pit bull rip apart another dog and hearing that it had done so before - I am totally not interested in that breed. That and allot of breeds at shelters have clearly been mis-bred and show signs of serious defects that will lead to disease. That would be too much heart ache and too many $$s spent at the vet.

I didn't realize this since the back porch cam has been out for a while. Anyway, the cats seem to know the routine. Early morning - as soon as I'm awake AND the sun is up, I put out the kibble. Why? Raccoons. See anon.

Then I go back to bed and get up between noon and two. This is when I'm sufficiently conscious to open some pop-top cans of pate. So I mix a couple cans with tap water, mush it up and put it out.

Well, today I saw the whole herd. About 4 or 5 kittens quickly becoming cattens plus about 4 or 5 adults. There are a couple of cats that have figured out that I'm not a threat. The others, especially the cattens, all scatter. They'll figure it out eventually though. Sometimes I get the feeling that it's more of a game and they just enjoy running.

I really have to get some mojo going so I can finish the hutch for the black feral and move his mat to one of the storage bins.

edit - oh, about the raccoons. I decided a while ago that they would just get the leftover kibble. I've stopped putting out more at night. So . . . first raccoon to the porch after dark wins.

NY customs tends to vary quite a bit. When I started ordering tapentadol a couple of years ago, the first 2 shipments were seized. But after that, they came thru unmolested and fairly quickly.

My cats are so funny, my bedroom is really cold and there's no sense in me putting a heater in there if I'm not going to be in there so I just left the door open a bit. I have a heater in their room. What room do the cats decide to go chill in? The one that's coldest lol. Black cat is on the bed and orange one is inside the laundry basket full of towels and stuff that I set aside to fold later.

Oh shit. Posted those in the wrong thread. I'll handcuff myself to a radiator until the meme police get here.

Got a call from hvac company, they're coming tomorrow to do the furnace, that was quick.
I pay an annual fee to make sure I get priority service. In a city of 125K, that's a big plus when really cold (and really hot) days hit an ppl HVAC systems conk out.

When I was a small child in AL, it was a big deal when water froze - and that was mainly just early in the morning.

Now I'm seeing semi's jackknifing there. Climate change with the emphasis on 'change.'

Just got the quote for the hybrid water heater. Funny enough it's actually more money than the furnace... $4,289. But there is a tax credit so might be worth it. The credit only works if you get it professionally installed. To buy a similar heater out right it's about 3k. They really make you work for the credit though, you have to do all the leg work to find an assessor and all that. I just submitted a bunch of em so first one that gets back to me I'll go with them. They have to assess the house first, then assess it after the install, then you get the credit. Apparently it's like over a grand for a water heater so really it might end up costing me about the same as if I installed one myself.

I think I'll just bite the bullet and get it done. I'm sure the new furnace will be a bit more efficient, and the water heater will be WAY more efficient, AND I can stop paying the rental fee on the gas one, so in the end I'll save.

At some point I want to install a water filter as well before the water heater. That will make it last longer too. It's warrantied for 10 years but ideally want it to last way longer after paying that kind of money.
