Looking at a land listing near me and I thought something wasn't quite right. What the real estate ad shows:

What the lot actually looks like:

The top photo is apparently "Stormy Desert" by Robert Murray and is available as a print from Walmart. The location is the McDowell Sonoran Preserve near Phoenix, more than a hundred miles from the subject lot.

Edit: I should note that the Google Earth image was taken during the height of the worst drought in five hundred years. The land isn't that bad now.

Morons at MGM haven't considered it was probably the 70hr work week that created the vulnerability in the first place.

Probably fair to stand up and new IT plant quickly, but terrible for WLB on a permanent basis; not like this is silicon valley. Anyway, what they really need is Cyber Security specialists and Architects to create a whole new system. Those people won't step foot in that place for less than $500/hr. Well, this Nevada, not greater Boston area, so maybe it's less.

Today the 343rd fire fighter died of "ground zero" related health issues. That now matches the number that died on the day.

You've got to at the very least admire these guys but I can't help feeling those additional deaths were avoidable. First, there can't be much doubt that at best, it was a "recovery" rather than rescue mission. And second, how many of those deaths would have been avoided with the most basic breathing protection.

I guess in a crisis a hero's mind doesn't work like that.

Err it's a multi billion dollar business. MGM Resort Group market cap is like 13B... and you are going to cheap out on system security right after you get hit?

Oh well, the gambling is probably a loss leader for them anyway. ;)

Well, looks like they are, the are prioritizing business continuity. Hopefully, they have a plan be after the infrastructure is stood back up.
