When I lived in an apartment, i had mine in the closet, which opened up to the main hallway. Now it's in the basement.

It's also a short depth rack and it's on wheels

I want to justify 10gbe but can't. First I need to ditch MOCA to our 2nd floor and get some ethernet run

I sometimes look at 10gig stuff but yeah, my network and even server storage back end working fine at gig speed so have no inclination to upgrade.

Funny thing is I bought a quad gig nic years back with the intention of doing link aggregation from NAS to VM storage network but I never ended up installing it. Shutting down the NAS is a pretty big deal so I basically kept it on standby for if ever I am forced to do a shutdown then I'd take that opportunity to install it. Never did have to shut it down and at this point if I do, I'd probably be better off putting in a 10 gig NIC so at least it's ready for the upgrade when I do rest of network.

10gbe stuff is dropping in TDP too. They no longer need active cooling. They're only going to become more efficient.

Our network refresh will be interesting. I'd like 2.5gbe to the APs

i finished snaking cables from a cabinet to the TV and front LR speakers. Kinda exhausted from that work. I might pay someone to run the rest of the cables
and I borked a toslink cable during this only to find out after the install so i've got to finish that project

My rack has not changed much, and most of this stuff is like 10ish years old, but it does what I need. :p

It's a bit of a mess since I'm in the middle of a few projects. Going to enclose it soon, and insulate it. Wood stove is going to be right on the other side, so yeah, not ideal if I leave it open.

The 3rd, wooden rack was originally meant to be filled with batteries. 4x group 27 deep cycle per shelf in 48v config with rectifiers and inverters in the other rack, but never happened. I actually plan to move the batteries out of there. Maintenance is kind of a pain since I can't access the fill holes so need to disconnect each time. Probably going to upgrade the solar batteries in my shed then move the shed batteries to a separate box in the crawlspace. Easier to access the tops with that setup. My end goal is to run all of this mostly on solar. I do need to setup proper automation for that, such as an automatic transfer switch to go back to hydro if the solar batteries get low. I think what I'll probably do is set it up to run on solar during production hours only so that the batteries can stay full overnight.

The lense on the porch cam is all froggy again but it's sorta cool. The kitties look like Necro-cats. They're all blurry when they move.

You keep the kibble you kill.
