Did a brake job on my rear axles last night. Went pretty smoothly. Wish I would have taken one more pic when the first one was complete. Oh well. I installed new pads and rotors. Replaced the caliper guide pins as well. The boots (for the guide pins) were in decent shape so I didn't get new ones. I just had to clean the caliper mount. Used a wire brush on the body and brake cleaner in the guide pin holes. Put some grease on the guide pins and pushed them in. I made sure to move them to make sure it was moving without issues. The old ones did not move that well. This led to the premature wear you see on the old pad. The other side had plenty of pad left. But you should always do them in pairs. Front or rear. I used the clips that came with the pads.
It had been over 2 1/2 years since I last did the rear brakes. It first started out with noise as I was backing out in the morning. I had vowed to check them but never did. Then, I felt it gripping at low speeds. I felt that this was the rear brakes due to my experience. This week it started grinding. I figured the pads had worn down and steel was rubbing on the rotors. Yup.
