I got my used cpu that I bought off of eBay. It was just a drop-in upgrade. I went from a Pentium G4400 to an i7 6700. The G4400 was always struggling with the Plex Server. I figure this was the cheapest way to throw a bunch of cores until I can afford to finish my Xeon build. So, from 3.3GHz 2C/2T to 3.4GHz (max 4.0Ghz boost) 4C/8T. Even the graphics has a slight upgrade. It was still pricey for such an old CPU.

the electrodes arent gonna reach and given that metal is a conductor & skin is an insulator it wouldn't do much to her anyway.

I'll be able to start on my deck soon. I can see my lumber now.

Shoveled around it a while back so that it dries faster in spring. Still need to do where the deck is. The snow has been slowly melting and we haven't had much new snow yet. If it can warm up more it should be gone by end of May when I have a week off.

Kubuntu looks pretty nice at first glance in a VM and all the programs I use have way more up to date versions than my current Mint 18 install which is kinda out of date.

Think I'm going to bite the bullet and start transplanting my mining rig components into my PC case so hopefully that board will handle my new GPU so I can do dual monitor. For shits and giggles I might try to boot off the existing drive to see if it boots but I doubt it. Going from Intel to AMD is a pretty serious hardware change.

It POSTS! So yeah it was the stupid motherboard. That motherboard has always given me grief with GPUs. On a new motherboard and CPU now.

Surprisingly my Linux install actually boots, but the resolution is all messed up, it thinks it's a laptop so I got some funky resolution going on. I might google to see if there is a quick fix otherwise I will install Kubuntu like my plan was, I need to upgrade to a newer distro anyway.

Not out of the woods yet though I still didn't try connecting the 2nd monitor... but one step at a time.

Ended up putting Kubuntu on my system.

Still can't get dual monitor to work though :/ I don't get why this is so hard.

Minute I go to plug second monitor everything just goes haywire and flickers and does weird crap. I think I will have to just use that monitor for something else and settle for single 4k. All this trouble when I could have just stayed on the built on video of the old system. Oh well was due for an upgrade anyway.

Sometimes I think of saying fuck it and just going back to Windows, but then I look at how horrible Windows 10 is. Yeah everything would work, but it's just such a terrible UI experience.

Man I'm so bummed. Was really hoping this would work, and totally not in the mood to go through the whole OS reconfigure process. Need to setup everything again. Mapped drives, emails bookmarks etc. Oh well I guess at the end of the day this forced me to do my much needed OS upgrade.

What was suppose to be a 2 minute thing earlier today turned into my wasting my whole day going around in circles. Time for bed I think.

Another day of trying to deal with getting dual monitors to work in Linux. Kubuntu died flat out on it's ass overnight, had to do a force reboot. So going to try Mint 19. hopefully that might pickup the second monitor. Might install it while it's plugged in, maybe that will help.
