Went to a fairy festival yesterday. Daughter wanted to go. We have one down this way she liked going to as a kid, and thought it would be something cool to do. It was kinda lame. The promoter used a gmail address, so that gives you an idea of the budget. Out in the middle of nowhere PA. Pleasant drive with interesting things to see in the mountains, but not much around.
Anyway, it was full of vendors selling hippie dippy stuff. I haven't heard so much bullshit in years. One guy in particular, it took every bit of my self control to not laugh at him. Clean cut, not hippy dressed, he looked like a MLM "guru". He was explaining his essential oils and essences, which were roughly homeopathic. I didn't smell any, but maybe they could have have done something if they were sufficiently strong. Scent can affect well being, so stripping away the mumbo jumbo, they may have been good for something. The crystals OTOH...
Holy shit! He's talking about aligning them to get the correct energy, and passing them over each other in a particular order to get the positive effect D^: He had rustic... I'd call it display shelves. Rounds cut off sticks, and glued together on the edges, and some three dimensional ones using copper wire to raise the levels. A nice display thing for your little rocks or whatever, but no.... That's not what it was at at all! You put your crystals on it, and his precise scientific build aligned the crystals in the correct matrix for healing energy. JFC! I almost couldn't take it. I just nodded, and plotted my escape, while trying to think of something nice to say that didn't indicate I believed his bullshit. He's either a scammer, or an idiot. Not sure which, but neither makes him look particularly good.
Maybe the placebo effect is stronger than I give it credit for. Everyone acts like they believe that nonsense. Perhaps believing in it enough makes it actually work. Maybe being stupid can be a net positive in life? Questions, questions...
