That's a nice system, but problem is most of the stuff on their site is not available anywhere to buy so can't look at prices to decide between different options. The rule of thumb is if you have to call, it means you can't afford it. That's probably like a 20 grand system lol.

I'm kinda itching to build some servers, but think I will wait out, I don't really need any and have other stuff to spend money on. Just spent about 2k at Home Depot today... building a deck.

You wish. 8 x Epyc 7742 is US$55,776, as in just the CPUs.

*sigh* So many consumer products debased or ruined by eco-friendliness, or to dodge misguided consumer notions of toxicity. :weary:

Do you have a good source for off lease stuff that does not murder you on shipping? Ebay is out of the question. I sometimes check Dell Outlet just for stuff in general like even older Xeon stuff and there's not really that much.

PCB oil made for the best fried chicken.

Best is if you can manage to get your hands off an old pole pig from the hydro company. Short out the high voltage side and run 120v straight to the low voltage side to essentially short it out. With a variac you can control the temp. The top can pop right off for access to the oil. Basically converts it into a deep fryer.

of course local shops sell off lease stuff as well, but you pay Canadian prices on those.

Oh yeah guess you're lucky to have that option. Was hoping maybe there was some site I don't know of that has good deals and does not rape you on shipping.

Really I'm surprised there's not some kind of escrow service that does this. I guess it would raise flags with border patrol to see the same car going back and forth so often with server stuff.

Do you not know anyone going across the border? Just have them bring it back for you. As long as it's not their everyday job I think they'd fare fine.

I live almost 1000km from the border. Going there is not exactly an every day thing for anyone and most people that go are flying.

Actually checking ebay for fun there's some reasonable ones right now. Under $100 shipping located in Canada. I guess it's just the thing of checking often and can run into decent deals. Usually when I check there's only stuff in the US and they all want like $600+ for shipping.

This is an interesting one..

Another good one:

Didn't do more research so could be better ones. Of course need to then try to source out compatible rails... But same goes for DIY builds. The cases never come with rails, which is annoying.

Lol I was curious I put "Timmins" to "United states" in Google maps thinking it would just bring me to the border, but instead it brings me literally to the part of the map that says "United States". I guess it kinda makes sense... the search system just goes by labels on the map.

But yeah turns out I'm closer than I thought, about 600km if I go through Wawa and Sault St. Marie. But still, it's not exactly a trip people do at any kind of regular basis.

Of course not taking into account where in the states I'd be driving. Would not really want to drive in the states though. Hell I don't even want to do the 401. Not my cup of tea.

I suppose that traffic between the two counties would be greater between Toronto and other cities that are closer to the border. Justifying the trip depends on how much you saved.

there are postal address services, but you are not really near the border. Maybe you can do one time deals.Thing is re-shipper don't really get as big a break on shipping cost as big shippers.

Woah didn't realize they were taking that much off the tree lol. Tempting to ask them to keep the bigger branches around for firewood. But probably a hassle for them as it's easier to just drag them all out to the wood chipper.
