What nonsense! In the frozen wastelands, it's one winter-capable vehicle per working adult (or commuting/working student), plus it's fun to keep a fair weather DD, or a fair weather weekender. For fuel economy reasons, you may wish to have an economical DD car, but then keep a truck around, perhaps to carry a plow, or to tow something, or haul supplies home from the home improvement store, or...

Oh yes, I could, living alone, by myself, have many many cars happily.

Are you sure it is to impress people? I don't want an Infiniti to impress people. I don't give a damn what other people think, as long as they don't hit my car, vandalize it, or steal it. I want an Infiniti because it will last forever, is comfortable, well equipped, fast, and handles well.

There is talk that I might get my parents' I30t, with 180k on it. It has a small spot of rust just ahead of the left rear wheel well, and the transmission whines under high acceleration from 0-40+ in the 30+ range. That's it. It cost somewhere around $25k as a used 2001 with 20k miles back in 2003-ish.

My car no longer has rocker panels, has a wobble in the back end, is prone to misfiring on cylinders, and the transmission is becoming very unhappy. The blower fan is squealing and the radio is dying. It's got a hell of a lot fewer miles.

There's a ton of minivans, crossovers, light SUVs, heavy SUVs, and trucks on the highway. Most of them probably shouldn't go as fast as they do, and most of their drivers shouldn't be on the road anyways.

Also, they block views around and through/over themselves, which is annoying as hell.
