Turned the tv on for the cat(dumped a box of old cereal on the back stoop for the birds). She's enjoying that. The blue jays are dominating the pile. Robins will come in for a couple pieces, and the jays chase them off.

Robins have white fluffy butts. Never noticed that before. I've come to appreciate robins as I've gotten older. I used to think they were bland and boring, but they have an understated beauty and elegance.

I live in an apartment and don't see many birds around here. Mostly mockingbirds. I got a buddy who has a house in a wooded area (oaks) and he has the mother load. Cardinals, blue jays, robins, etc. Yeah, the blue jays are bigger birds. Can throw their weight around. Well, in the woods. Out in the open the hawks rule. The robins around here aren't as colorful as the ones up north. Those were bigger and chests were brighter orange.

A few years ago I heard the blue jays screaming, looked out the window, and brown blur flashed by about 5' from the house. I saw the hawk fly away with a jay treat, and the jays after him making a ton of noise.

Humans could use that kind of humility. Where stepping out of the house is always a risk.
