UPS update: Well, today I received a new battery pack for my CyberPower 1500PFCLCD UPS. The batteries had lasted 5.5 years. I'm pretty happy with that. The battery pack I ordered was a direct replacement, with a harness to connect the two batteries and connect to the unit. Unfortunately, Amazon had listed the wrong model. It was off by just a letter. That meant that the harness included would not hook up with my model. I purchased the direct replacement battery pack so I wouldn't have to swap out the old harness.

Amazon was super helpful as usual. They said that they couldn't ship back the batteries due to it's hazardous nature and federal law. They gave me a full refund and said I could keep/dispose of the battery pack as I saw fit. Well, I just took both battery packs apart and swapped the harnesses. I was able to salvage the new tape that held the new unit together and hold the batteries and harness together. Slipped right into the unit after I flipped the battery 180°. Plugged in the wiring from the unit to the battery pack. Replaced front cover. Voila! UPS is up and running. Widget on desktop says 45 minutes run time for the main rig, router and switch that I have hooked up to the battery/surge outlets. Very happy and you can't beat the cost. FREE! :D

Nice! How much would that have set you back if you had to pay though? I always found it way too expensive to buy lead acid batteries online especially with the shipping. I get them for 20-30 bucks locally here at an electrical dealer. Which reminds me the batteries in one of my UPSes is dead and I should probably change it. It's only to power my monitors but if power goes out for more than a few minutes I won't be able to shut down the PCs properly. Hitting power button should initiate a proper shut down mind you.

Amazon refunded me back $81. Yeah, I could have bought them locally. However, my wife earned some Amazon bucks doing some activities online so there was no cost to me out of pocket.

I have two of those CyberPower models. The other powers my file server, monitor, speakers and cable modem. I have an APC 1000VA sine wave unit for the missus setup. I replaced her batteries a year ago. They were supposed to be sealed but they leaked when I opened the unit. Thankfully, no damage was done to the unit.

Joke shamelessly stolen from a friend.

Alright, so an American, a Frenchman, and a Russian are all going to be executed.
But the judge is feeling merciful.
"I will give you all two steel balls, a metre in diameter. Whoever does the most amazing thing with them by the end of 24 hours shall go free."
Now of course, all three stay up all night trying to think of what to do.
When the day of the execution comes, the judge visits the American first.
He boasts, "Look, judge! I've balanced one on top of the other!"
"Very nice!" says the judge, and he moves on.
Next he sees the Frenchman.
"Behold!" the Frenchman says, as he juggles the massive steel balls.
"Impressive!" the judge proclaims.
Finally he moves on to the Russian.
To his surprise, all he's doing is sitting on the bed, crying.
"Well?" asks the judge. "What happened to the steel balls?"
"I broke one and lost the other."
They let the Russian man go.

A man sees a lady with big breasts. He asks, "Excuse me, can I bite your breasts for $1000?" She agrees, so they go to a secluded corner. She opens her blouse and the man puts his face in her breasts for 10 minutes. Eventually the lady asks, "Aren't you gonna bite them?"

He replies, "No. It's too expensive."
