If you're going to spend money on hardware, the display is where you should spend the most.
After all, it's the one part you spend countless hours staring at.![]()

Are there any 4K TVs in the USA? I thought they were 3840x2160 aka UHD.
And yes hot shower vs. better display...
He's in Canada, no domestic hot water! YIKE!

Why not both?Had someone come over to do an estimate. He did not really recommend the power vent or even dual pipe, said the efficiency gain you basically lose by the fact that it uses hydro. But tankless is where you really save. So got a quote on both a standard pilot light basic tank, and a tankless. Will see what they say, suppose to email me.
For monitor I think I will bite the bullet and just buy a real monitor. The 32" are about a grand. Or I might just try to see if I can get Synergy to stop crashing. I need to dive in the code and then strip out all the junk that's not actually needed for it to work. I kinda like having separate screens altogether too so a single 4k would still take some getting used to I think. Ultrawide might actually be an option too.... I keep forgetting about that.
I hate that separate X11 sessions does not work properly anymore. You used to be able to have each screen on it's own X11 session on the same machine but apps would not open on another monitor.
Basically my goal is to have more screen real estate but gain some control over where programs open. Freaking hate opening something and it ends up 2 monitors down.
No Costco, closest one is 3 hours away in Sudbury. There's deals on TVs here too though, just the thing of deciding on one in the 32" range. Still a big expense nontheless and is also a gamble since I don't even know if 4k will work with the built on video card or the KVM. KVM is just a cheap Trendnet They don't seem to make very many USB KVMs, they're all PS/2 which is retarded. I'll probably hold off on this anyway, just something I'm kinda toying with for the future. Not ready to buy now. Maybe actual 4k monitors will go down in price by the time I decide I want to buy.
Yeah seems if I go 4k I'll probably have to move the gaming system to the TV so I can get rid of the KVM. Though issue with TVs from what I've read is that they have higher latency than monitors, so not really great for gaming. That or I might look to see what it takes to design my own KVM. My idea is that it would emulate a computer to the monitor, keyboard, and mouse, and it would emulate a monitor, keyboard, and mouse to the computers. That way when you switch, it would just be a logical switch and it would be instant. When you move the mouse it would simply translate the movements to whatever emulated output is set as the current one. Video would work the same way. I don't get why KVMs don't already work this way. They actually physically switch each one. That's why they're so slow and flaky.
100 % device mapping means the switch JUST WORKS. Use whatever mouse, keyboard or HID device you like, with its own driver. Reboot a machine while its video is not selected, and when you come back to it the resolution will be correct. You also can chain multiple DDM KVM together for Multi Monitor or Multi Head setup. You get the best user experience with both fastest switching and your own flexible configuration.
Costco.ca has the Vizio P50 C1 going for a grand shipped, with two year warranty. Don't think you need membership to order. The KVM is to switch between my two workstations, one is my main every day one and other is for gaming and is only turned on as required as it uses more power.
Though I've looked into hooking up the gaming machine to the TV and game in the living room. Basically treat it like a console I guess. I heard TVs have input lag making it not so great for FPSes and such but might still try it some time. Just need to come up with some kind of table/tray solution to put the keyboard and mouse on. Probably build it and try to stain it to match the rest of the furniture, could be a fun project.
