Finally got time to work on the HTPC. 8 GB kit was throwing all sorts of errors in memtest, regardless of socket, etc. I requested an RMA from GSkill and placed another new 8 GB kit in the HTPC and it is testing fine.

I've nevever had any problem with GSkill's ram. Update us on how the RMA goes

I haven't either, but this system has had issues with 2 separate GSkill kits. Granted, I could never prove the first kit was bad -- it passed all Memtests I threw at it. This one, however, failed quickly. It has to have gone bad in the last month or so. I replaced it with a new GSkill DDR3-1333 kit that I had laying around from a Newegg sale. I hope this one lasts.

Interestingly, my Sharepoint environment is now able to run Windows repair AND boots. It wouldn't let me with the old RAM in. I wonder if I can salvage this environment.

are you planning on doing sharepoint stuff for the rest of your career? Or something else? I can't imagine doing that :\

that's odd. Try bumping the voltage just tad if you have an issue. I have had to do that before

It was actually running a little above 1.5. No worries, I am just RMAing it. I already put the other kit in and put the system back together.

Hard telling. Ideally I'd like to get out of IT to be honest. But, Sharepoint architects make very good money (even in Indiana, well over $100K). I've only done it full time for a couple of years and it can be fun, but my current job isn't fun. :(

My plan is to do SAP + oracle then go into consulting or sales. Anything on the sharepoint side of things like that?

Sharepoint is very similar actually. I think of it more along the lines of an ERP product as opposed to a conventional server product like Exchange or ISA or something like that.

It is a huge product that is increasingly used to tie into Oracle, SAP, etc. for BI purposes. SP 2010 is big for BI currently and increasingly, social networking. It has the standard SP stuff too -- doc management, collaboration, etc. It is also an app platform and you can develop just about anything to run on it.
