SSD for mass storage?

Nah, tiger direct had a 500GB SSD priced at $36.99. They cancelled the order though once monday rolled around.

Though I do have around 1TB of SSDs, the 480GB C:/ drive in my desktop and 2 240GB drives 1 currently in my PS4 and 1 i'm letting my brother borrow.

It would be kinda fun to make a SSD raid array for VMs. I'd need to build a server that has 2.5" bays though. Perhaps in the future, I'll get something like this case:

Downside with SSDs is they wear out, so not sure if I'd be brave enough to use them for mass storage, but I mean, if I get 5+ years out of them that's still decent I guess... Then I just upgrade to larger ones. Retire them when they hit 10% usable life left, then they're still good as an OS drive.

pointless. SSD would saturate the backplane. Load up on ram. Wish I can afford to max out the ram on my PE R710, it can go up to 144GB :awe:.

this is how much mucking I am doing to my server

create ramdisk with imdisk 10gb in size
create a virtual disk volume in it, assign it to plex vm
use that ramdisk as transcoder temp drive

:awe:
