Fuck, I hate weddings and the wife RSVPed to go to one next Saturday. I hate this particular friend too.

I have a wedding this saturday. But its my cousin and I like her, so I'll go. My beef is that she's young and particularly stupid even for a young blonde, so I know this marriage wont work. But I need to pretend to support it anyway.

Also, I dont relish being molested by the TSA.

I hate weddings in general but I can't stand this friend that is getting married. She met this guy online and has known him for 2 or 3 months and is "in love." Prior to him, she had met another guy and was "in love" with him too after 2 or 3 months. I can't take any of this seriously -- it is a huge joke. This is the guy I mentioned earlier -- the guy who is a) "passionate about opera," b) who wanted to wear a kilt to the wedding, and c) was arguing with her over the cake topper. I hope, for his sake, that a) was just something he made up to try to get laid, b) was said in a drunken state, and c) was because she wanted something expensive and he is a cheapass like me. Those don't explain the comments I heard about his deep involvement in selecting wedding colors, though. D:

Compounding all of this is the fact that at some point, I need to put some serious time in at work on the weekends and that pretty much has to start this weekend. I admit I'm becoming more jaded and anti-social as I grow older but my wife needs to step it up and be more understanding and helpful.

2004 Infiniti I35, $12000, 79k miles, blue with light interior.
2004 Infiniti G35x, $13000, 87k miles, blue with black interior.
2004 Infiniti G35x, $12000, 84k miles, silver with black interior.

There is no question really that I'd rather the G over the I. RWD/AWD over FWD, sportier chassis instead of a soft non-touring edition.

The equipment looks to be pretty much the same on both G's, so I don't know why there's a thousand dollar difference in their prices. If the equipment really is all the same, I should probably strongly entertain getting the silver one for 12k over the blue for 13k, a thousand dollars for blue paint (when the only cars I like for cars is dark gray and black) doesn't seem sensible.

And given that, then it becomes...
$12 or 13k for a silver or blue 2004 G35x with black leather interior, 84 or 87k miles, 5AT AWD/RWD, one has Bose, the other probably but not definitely (only three pictures),
VERSUS
$12-13k for a black 2006 Mazda 6s with black cloth interior, 41k miles, 5MT FWD, with a new clutch and a new motor, Bose.

Infiniti: it's a known reliable brand (we've owned a small flotilla of Nissans, and our sole Infiniti has 180k miles). RWD feels nice, AWD is victory in winter. It has 260/260 from the 3.5 V6, which is really nice. It's 0-60 and quarter times are actually only a little ahead of the Mazda, which is surprising. I'm not too concerned about the interior holding up with usage, the I30 with 180k feels closer to half that wear.
Only available in auto, interior isn't all that compelling, it's very boxy inside, exterior is a bit dated. Miles are quite high for being over $10k.

Mazda: it's two years newer, the insurance will be lower, it has zero miles on the clutch and motor, only half the miles on the chassis, it has a very lively road feel, very responsive, might have a small edge in MPG?.
It's a manual, which sometimes sounds fun, sometimes sounds like a pain. It feels responsive, but from throwing it into corners, I question how good the handling actually is, and how much of it is just a precise transfer of what is felt. The motor is widely considered to be weak. Any increase in motor power would void its warranty (short warranty though), and run into torque steer. I'm already listing out mods I'd want to do to the car over time.

I can't really think of G35x mods besides wider tires. You can't put more power into it, not with auto and AWD, and it's an expensive motor to tweak too. You can change the suspension (struts, springs, sway bar), or give it bigger brakes from an 05-06 or 03-04 Brembos, but necessary? Unlikely, and it's not like an automatic is really suited for autocross.

I do think I'd take the Mazda to autoX, and therein it would reveal that it is likely to want stiffer struts, lower springs, thicker RSB, in addition to larger tires, possibly larger brakes, and still wishing for more power.

So if I'm comfortable sitting in both the Mazda and the Infiniti, I have, as of yet, no real idea which car I'd take.

My cousin just turned 21.

I figure we'll all hear from her again in a couple of days when the hangover wears off.

The blue G35x is 35 minutes from here... without traffic. But it means going right through Boston, so there is traffic. The silver G35x is maybe twenty minutes, but it's in a different...

Well, I live northeast of the city along 93. I work just northeast of the city along 93. The blue G35x is southeast of the city by some 25 miles, off route 3. The silver G35x is southwest of the city by about 10 miles, inside the ring.
