windows 8 disappointment nef.

I was hoping Metro would have Android-esque widgets on it, to actually provide some useful information at a glance (eg: disk usage, network status, etc)... sadly, as far as I can tell, it just seems to be giant sized icons for people who'd be otherwise unable to read the icon text on a desktop.

Yeah the general consensus is that Win8 wasnt needed, and now that we have it: Not wanted.

I wanted to buy a legit OS and get off my pirated Win 7, so it made sense to just buy the most recent version since they're the same price... but since installing Win 8 last night, it seems like all I've done has been google how to turn off "features."

I've seen a few people at school with. The majority of them turned off the cute little squares and just use it like normal, the only difference being touch screen.

I've been using windows 8 for months, honestly it is windows 7 wrapped in a new skin with some extra functionality and performance improvements. I'd say if you have W7, don't upgrade, if you have vista or are buying new, no real reason not to get it, you can use it almost identically to W7 with a few small tweaks.

it's the stupid stuff that annoys me... like having an entirely new window pop up when I hit the windows key, but not having an easily accessible button to close/minimize/escape out of that new window.

I'm sure I'll get used to it, but navigating the Windows Store is a little baffling since I can't figure out how to return to previous menus/screens without starting from scratch.
