no smartphone?
oh, yeah... but no real games that I could see myself diving into for a 5-hour flight.

all the games I have on my smartphone are stuff that can keep me occupied while taking a shit or standing in-line at the store (card games, angry birds, etc)

I'm hearing the GTX 680 isn't nVidia's true high-end card -- that will apparently be out in August. Maybe I'll hold off and see.

680 is a BIG disappointment for compute. (CUDA/CLI) Not everyone plays games nor wants to spend $$$ for Tesla cards as well. Apparently they are catching on to 580/590 users buying them just for that purpose.

that's what I've been reading as well. Single precision performance is merely ok. DP is horrible.

kind of annoyed I bothered to sign up for Hertz Gold.

apparently your first gold rental is no different than any other pleb else since they make you go to the counter for your first rental to verify your driver's license.

the entire reason I signed up for it was to save time at the airport.

It will be appreciated on your next trip.

I might call and harangue them tomorrow during business hours.

there's a Hertz right across the street from my office, I kinda wonder if I couldn't confirm my driver's license and all that there, and just go express when I get to LAX in 2 weeks.

not being next to a major airport, the place across the street nearly always seems empty.

That sounds like a really good idea.
