Major items:
The car itself! The looks don't do much for me, but the 2001-05 looks a little better than the 99-00, and it has a factory stiffer body.

Also, the LSx motor. That's a big issue.

Something from Flyin' Miata: the engine installation kit. This $1950 item (plus shipping) includes the new subframe for mounting the motor, frame rail stiffeners, and a few other goodies. As far as I can tell, this is the part that actually holds the motor, and therefore, is critical to having it precisely accurate, and very strong. Thus, the money.

It may be possible to change that drivetrain out by putting in parts from another car, the donor car... but the length probably wouldn't match.

Almost $700 for an oil pan, saving 5 pounds, and more importantly, making sure the oil is fed properly under hard cornering.

That, I believe, can be considered optional.

They sell a $600 radiator. Yes, it'd be better than the stock one (the stock LSx from a donor that is), but the pricetag becomes a problem.

Yes, the radiator and the oil pan would be good... but $1500 is a lot of money there. I'm assuming the LSx radiator can fit (it might not), and the oil pan's biggest advantage is under "heavy track usage". I don't have a track anywhere nearby.

FM doesn't say a word about selling their engine controller stuff. Um... sounds like an ECU? Swipe from the donor car! Then probably have to trick it, a lot, so it doesn't go completely insane in another vehicle.

The T56 should come out of the donor car, along with the LSx motor.

And if it is an LS3 motor, the T6060 will work just fine.

Either one would need a skip shift eliminator, but that's cheap and easy.

If the 2001 Miata is bought in good working order, then its motor, transmission, drivetrain, wheels, exhaust, and suspension can all be sold off to help fund the project.

Because the aftereffects of the conversion will mean taller (bad) and wider (good) wheels, stiffer sway bays, stiffer springs (especially up front), the obvious motor/transmission/drivetrain combination, a new dual 3" exhaust, and possibly even new BBK to save weight and increase braking ability.

Then the frame would need to be stiffened up, lots of stainless steel tube and angle brackets and bolts and welding... thermal and acoustic insulation all through the floor and front of the compartment...

The stiffening I would plan to cobble together myself. Make sure the car is unloaded (i.e. jacks to take the weight off the suspension), make sure everything is square and even, and then weld the pieces together - there's already a nice welder at home that can handle steel and aluminum.

"Miata 9005 Xenon Replacement HID bulbs (high beam) Give your Miata that expensive look, found on todays newer luxury cars, for a fraction of the cost!"

That company should be burned to the ground.

I think the '01 Miata has projector lights from the factory. They won't stack up to a Matsushita/FX-R/85122+ combination, but they'll outstrip halogen designs just fine.

There is one Miata within fifty miles in the 99-05 range. It's a 2003, it's red, automatic (serious lulz), 76k miles, and $10000 at a used car dealership.

Get real, guys.
