So for peak figures, that puts the G37x just over the STi, which leads the Evo X considerably... in terms of horsepower. In terms of torque, STi leads, with Evo X behind it, and G37x tightly trailing the Evo X.

STi HP... smooth rise, a flat lull at 3400 to 3900, another rise, another lull at 4400 to 5000, then a slow rise to peak.

Evo X HP... steep smooth rise (may be the Y-scale though), curving to a slow rise around 4100, peak at 5700, a small dip, then the real peak marginally above the prior, and then trailing off past 6300.

G37x HP... smooth steady rise right up to 6400 RPM, where it flattens out for peak value.

Analysis. Evo X's steady rise edges out the STi at its lull points, and the steady delivery is a nice thing to have, but the STi overall holds a lead over it, ranging from just barely to 30 HP or so. However, the STi climbs evenly with the G37x, right up until the STi's first lull. At that point, the G37x doesn't falter for a moment, and keeps smoothly running away, perfect delivery right across the spectrum. There's no contest on the horsepower curve. The G37x rapes both.

STI torque... rises to 3400, then dips down, corresponding with the lull in the HP, climbs again around 3850 through 4400, then noses over and keeps going down at a mild slope. The shape of the curve is terrible.

Evo X torque... climbs nicely until 3900, then goes over and slides down. Again, either it rises and falls quickly, or the Y-scale is very different from the others. A much better shape than the STi. It peaks to 235 around 3900, nice early peak, the STi at the same time is in a rut but still delivering much the same figure.

G37x torque... starts much higher than the others, has a lower slope on the rise, has a broad flat peak, finally starts to slow fall past 5000, but still a lesser fall off than the other two. It's incredible.

Analysis. Again, the Evo X presents a nicer and smoother delivery curve than the STi, yet despite that, the STi has more torque at all points along its curve, no matter how ragged and ugly it may be. But if it's a quest for a smooth torque curve, the G37x laughs at both of them. The STi holds small leads for most of the time, except for its lull points (I don't know why those are there). However, its torque is up and down all over the place, its rises and falls are steeper.

In terms of the motor, the G takes a solid victory to my mind. Not really surprising, these three cars were never built to compete against each other. Two of them are rally-inspired using 2.x L turbocharged inline 4's, going up against a 3.7L V6 naturally aspirated.

Mitsubishi's 4B11T is 2.0L with a twin turbo, and for its size, it's rather much a technological marvel. Subaru's 2.5L with a single scroll is an oddity, a flat four with a top-mount intercooler, and a technological relic. The G's VQ series 3.7L is another technological marvel; the descendant of the excellent 3.5L, with massive improvements. Oh, further bonus? The most fuel efficient of the three vehicles is the most powerful of them, the one with the largest motor.

In terms of handling, I again suspect it won't even be a contest, with the little rally cars running rings around the luxurious G. And that's unfortunate. To me, modifying an engine to get more power is far easier than ratcheting down the handling of a vehicle.

See... I can't imagine how to improve the Evo X's power. The STI... sure, twin-scroll turbocharger at the extreme, but just downpipe, cat, catback, tune can push it over 300 whp. The G is even easier. It's a monster waiting to be unleashed. Turbo, super, or best of all, twin turbos - since it has dual exhaust manifolds. A $500 pair of intake pipes provides 15 HP.

Downsides?

Evo and STi are all the time AWD. G is only AWD when you need it. Not so thrilled with that.

Further, Evo is the DCT that I love the concept of so much, STi has a manual, but the G37x is only an automatic. It's a great automatic. Seven speeds, smooth fast shifts, but...

Still going to stitch together the images on Photoshop tonight. I could use a hobby. Several of them.

Too bad I can't just take a ton of online courses to graduate at the end of this year. That'd be one hell of an amazing hobby. But nooooooo...

I'd guess the G's automatic transmission shifts earlier than one might manually shift the STI's, and there is an obvious 500 pound weight difference.
