Anyone else here do some a little model building? I used to be big on RC airplanes then sort of fell out of it after we lost our place to fly. I've been trying to build some other things. Got a Savage RC truck I'm tinkering with on and off. My latest project is something a little more retro.
I just completed the Midwest Model VI steam engine kit. Took it for its first run on live steam tonight. This is an oscillating steam engine. The boiler is copper and fuelled by gelled ethanol. It's oiled using AT fluid I had lying around. It's pretty noisy since I accidentally bent the drive shaft slightly, causing it to vibrate. Puts out a decent amount of power for its size though. Enough for a small boat. I might pickup the boat kit as a winter project.
Here's a quick video of it in action.
