It's time that I bought a proper boxspring and mattress.

I am looking for a queen sized bed. What are some recommendations that you have for mattresses and box springs? I am looking to spend around $500.

go to the mattress store and try them out

different people like different mattresses, this is like asking someone to choose some shoes for you

I got a queen-sized pillowtop + boxspring for $450 at BJs. I don't know if it was a good price, but if it wasn't it was worth every penny not having to deal with a class of people that may well be lower on the evolutionary chain than the likes of personal injury lawyers, used car salesmen and loan officers - mattress salesmen.

Actually, 1-800-Mattress typically has a number of good deals. Local showrooms in most areas. Be willing to negotiate for price as well; dependent upon which set you find, often an additional $100 to $300+ can be discounted, as the markup in bedding is quite high.

We bought this bed two years, the best $339 I ever spent!

There is a costco right down the street from me! Thanks rossman!

Edit: Can I buy it in the store for that price? Or do I have to order it online. Im moving into my apartment in about a week and I need a bed!

Edit2: Is it 499 or 399?

Yes you can buy at CostCo B&M (that's what we did) and it should be $499 - $100 coupon = $399.

Perfect! I think we'll buy one too, thanks Ross! :) (does CostCo deliver? and what is B&M again?)

Confirmed.

We bought the King size of the Sealy Posturpedic Mira Loma II at Costco about a year ago and it's been great. It's not a pillowtop, so we were planning on getting one of the eggshell foam toppers for it, but it's so comfortable without it that we haven't bothered.

edit: to actually answe the question you asked :D ... they are worth looking into if you have bad back or wake up sore .. they definitely aren't crap, but I don't think I'd say they were better than a quality spring mattress. Different, but not better.
/edit

Not worth what you'd pay retail, and in all honesty (imo) the price of that costco one you are looking at is so close to a DIY foam bed that you should just go with costco unless you are really hyped on the foam or have a bad back.

You might check with your local Costco B&M. The stuff on Costco.com always includes shipping in the price. I'm almost certain that I bought my queen-sized last year for $399 without the coupon.

It was worth every cent even if I spent $499.

BTW, some Costco B&Ms will deliver and some won't. The one in Oxnard wanted $40 per item. I had to pick up a 32" TV at Best Buy, and they wanted me to pay for delivery too so I rented a van from Budget Truck Rental ($19.95 rental + $0.77 per mile). It was 5 miles round trip.

Of course, hauling the bed and 180lbs worth of TV up two stairs kind of sucked... but it also convinced me that I am the strongest man in the world. :D

Happy to hear it.

It's a great bed at an amazing price. CostCo only does this once a year around January.

I think places that sell mattresses hold steady second in scamming right after used car dealerships.
