So I will be driving into houston coming in from west on I-10, going to IAH, I will be taking Sam Houston Tollway. Question is how do I pay toll? Last time I went there I don't remember encountering any manned toll booths, I do not have EZTag, so how the hell do I pay toll? will then send me the bill in mail? or are there manned toll booths? maybe on the airport off ramp? is there some other way?

Take a different route or just pay the fine when it comes in the mail. Administration fee is like $35 per toll on top of the toll itself.

If you have time just get a TXTag or EZPass.

You could take 10 to 610 to 59 to get to IAH.

Don't remember how they do it in Houston, but in Dallas, it's "zip cash" meaning they will just bill you the normal toll rate in the mail.

If Houston doesn't have that, then they might charge you a ridiculous fee for running through the toll w/o a tag, maybe like $15 each time.

I recommend taking non-toll roads or to get an ez pass/txtag like the above poster mentioned.

If you are taking Beltway 8 (Sam Houston Tollway), there are manned booths. You'd be better off going 10W to 59N, though.

Manned booths, far right from I-10 up through the airport. Runs $1.75 each segment, I believe. If you have coins, you can use the coin collector. That's quicker than using the manned booth.

Fail

I have lived Houston for about a year and a half and I have yet to use a toll road. I guess I am doing it wrong.

Fortunately, we're not as bad as Dallas...yet. But, if you live on the West side, there's a chance you'll need to take one sooner or later.

I have not been on a Houston toll in years, but in IL, the tolls have a site set up so if you do blow through one, you can pay it after the fact. I'm sure that comes with a small fee, but it can't be that much.

I am sure they have manned booths though, or at least booths that weigh the coins. Perhaps, a couple rolls of quarters would be a good investment.

I will reach Houston around 9:00 am on on a weekday so want to avoid going all the way to 59, downtown area. Even if the traffic will be same, we will be taking beltway 8, decision has been taken by higher powers, no changes can be made there.
I am going this week, so no time to get EZTag.

So I guess the verdict is that there are manned toll booths, so I will be fine. Thanks guys
