ATOT gun owners (might belong in p&n)

Does everyone here who owns a gun, thinks the government is in a never ending struggle to steal them away? Browsing glocktalk, ar15 forums, and various other gun forums it sounds like every single person registered for those forums thinks they are going to have their guns taken away by the GVT. They will post something about...health care...and say that this means our gun rights are under attack. Is this the general mentality of gun owners? That the government is only out to steal our guns from us? I own a gun, and am happy that people have to pass background checks and be over 21 to own a pistol and short barreled rifle, because most 18 year olds I know aren't mature enough.

I own guns and no, I don't think the government is trying to steal them away.

Honestly though, I think most gun owners are completely whack.

I think they see it as a slippery slope issue. They feel taking away guns is just the first step to taking all your rights away.

It's been 9 years since clinton was in office, Clinton has sort of turned into a mythological anti-gun behemoth that more or less doesn't have alot of truth to it. I think clinton did alot to regulate and he actually did ban certain things (assault ban I believe?) But he did not do anything like the brits did w/ taking weapons

Obama is 1st democratic president we've had since then so people are freaking the freak out. STILL. Even after dem's basically lay it on a card they won't touch the NRA since it bit them so bad during Gore/Bush

one of the arguments i was reading was how the brady handgun violence protection act, which requires people to pass a background check before getting a handgun, was out there to steal their hunting shotguns and rifles...when all it fucking does is make you pass a damn background check. if you are a law abiding citizen and legally allowed to own a gun whats the big fucking deal? my brain seriously hurts from reading all those gun forums, and i have to write a paper tonight. The average IQ of of the co-ar15 forums is about 5.

You're being too kind. I think that's the combined IQ actually.

background checks and age limits don't keep people from getting guns, they only keep people from getting guns from "official" sources

No, but I think a bunch of lefty pencil pushers are using the government to steal my guns away.

Realistically, I'm pretty liberal with moderate leanings regarding government and fiscal responsibility.

You should try other forums aside from arf.com.

Calguns.net is a lot better I think.

true, but it still doesn't mean they are taking away your guns because they want you to pass a background check and go through legit vendors. Thats more the point i was trying to make.

So, your solution is to allow the criminals to buy their guns at the local gun store with no impediments at all?

And most of them then go on to vote against gay marriage and abortion, proving that humans are idiots regardless of politics.

Personally I say "guns for all" should of never happened, but now that it works that way, I don't believe in taking them away. Too late now, and if they take them away, people who are law abiding will turn them in, criminals will not, then you'll have a bunch of criminals with guns and law abiding citizens without guns.

In a place like here in Canada, especially the small city I live in, nobody has concealed guns. The only guns that are legal are hunting riffles. Police are an exception obviously. You can't really easily conceal big hunting guns so you know someone has a gun when you see them, unless they somehow manage to shove it in their pants. You can't just go walk in town with it either, unlike the states where it's perfectly normal to walk around with a huge shot gun, or a handgun. Heck, didn't some bank give a free gun when you opened an account? I thought that was kind of funny.

Is there the possibility of a criminal managing to get a hand gun here? Sure, but the odds are very slim. Most criminals here have knives, and yeah even knives can kill, heck, a good bunch of punches can kill, so gun control is not the all magical crime stopper, but it does reduce it a bit. You can try to dodge a guy with a knife or a blunt object, but not a guy with a gun. If right now I heard someone smashing through my window with a bat or other object, I would have time to grab the closest weapon worthy object around me and go defend myself. If a guy came with a gun, I'd be dead the instant I stepped in line of sight, maybe even before if he decides to shoot out the whole house with a high powered machine gun. A single bullet hits the gas line and I'm going on a permanent vacation to see my maker after experiencing a few seconds of hell.

Mordor is a small town? You make a point, people who follow the laws are going to turn them in and criminals wont but im not trying to argue that the government is or isn't taking away our guns. I'm just wondering why most gun owners think the government is trying too.

the truth is there are the dianne feinstein of the world that will push for stupid gun legislation, she has stated it as her aim.

1 senator from cali =/= the entire government. and I don't think 2/3rds the senate is barbra boxer.

or dianne feinstein as you have edited your OP

edit: the latest development is that they think the UN committee to stop illegal international small arms trafficking, means they want their privately owned firearms.
