ATOT Gives Awful Advice

An odd thing about these forums is while it is about technology, the vast majority of people here don't actually seem to work in the field. Take developers - I'd be hard pressed to come up with a list of ten names here who actually write software. Or who build hardware. Or other areas of tech.

You do end up with a lot of wannabes who pull their knowledge of the field from the headlines, which are predominantly negative (that's what sells). I'd agree that IT, which I define as a help desk-esque role, is on the decline. Other areas of technology are hotter than ever: Here at one of Canada's largest companies, we've had positions open for developers, server admins and DBAs for months. We can't hire enough people to keep up with the number of projects we want to run with.

Ultimately: Just do something you're good at. If you're good at something, someone will hire you to do it for them. That's all there is to it.

Sorry OP, I save all my good advice for myself. I need all the help I can get.
