ATOT Gives Awful Advice

I know. I've talked to real people who actually have good jobs in IT, and they never echo the ridiculous sentiments voiced on this forum. It's like ATOT is where you go if you hate your job and your life. Awful place for advice.

Being fresh out of high school and working for geeksquad does not count.

Also, there is a difference in job and a career.

OP, I am getting the idea your 19, 21, or around 22 years old. Come back in 10 - 15 years and talk to us then.

Don't get me wrong, there are some good people here and some good advice to be had, but probably not the first place I would think of for life/career counseling. 😛

It doesn't hurt to bounce ideas off complete strangers either. AT has tons of experienced IT veterans and generally I see a lot of good advice when it comes to IT careers. I don't remember his specific career thread, but I DO remember a thread where he posted a poll along the lines of "which field is the hottest" or something like that and he got his panties in a wad when everyone ragged on IT and praised engineering.

A while ago, I was asking questions about careers, and a bunch of people on this site said crap like I wouldn't be able to get a good job, and that I should have done all kinds of things differently with my education. Now, I have a career, a great one at that. If I had followed ATOT's "advice," I would have given up a long time ago. I hate it when someone fails in their life, rather than accepting it as their own personal failure, they try to impose it on society. The attitude like, "this is the way it was for me; therefore, that's the way it is for everyone else." FALSE! Your failures are your own, and that doesn't mean that the next person won't succeed where you failed!
You work in IT, right?

This is you:

Oh boohoo I don't like my job, so I'm going to go on the internet and try to discourage other people because surely there life will end up 100% like my life. I told you you wouldn't be able to get a good job at all and I was...wrong..so...uh I'm sure you won't like that job in 4-6 years herp derp...and if you still do, then I'll say 10-15 years or some other crap like that.

Give me a break *sigh*:\

I called it!

Shens. All ATOT advice is 100% accurate. Especially the Medical advice. You can bank on it.

Fail.

You did not provide a detailed break down of that 100% figure.

We need to know:
- the pressure you placed on the keys to type 100%
- the tilt and angle of your hand as you reached for the shift key
- did you blink?
- did you back space?
- what make and model was the keyboard?
- your elbows, are they on the desk?
- would you have been able to post this through a mobile device?
- what plan do you have?
- how much of your monthly payment went towards this post?
- how much battery did this post drain?
- if it was from a desktop, how much did this post contribute to your monthly electrical bill?

Get back to us with the details - until then you are just spewing false information about the accuracy of information on these forums.

lol no, I have nothing against engineering. I could be a software engineer if I wanted to.

Good point. Still, I would probably do this after I kicked the tires a little with people I knew.

You didn't "call it" at all; you were given this exact same advice (wait until you've worked 10+ years) in another thread and see how you like it.

and then in 10-15 years, you'll tell me to wait 20-25 years. You are wrong. Today, tomorrow, and the next day.

The only person you should take life advice from on this forum is Alkemyst. He is all knowing...or at least he thinks he is.

How old are you? What's your degree? How long have you worked? I guarantee you that I have far more education and experience than you, so I do know what I'm talking about.

You are one person, and you do not represent anything further than yourself. No, I am not going to give you fodder for personal attacks. Just because you don't like your job, that doesn't mean that the next person won't.

For all intensives porpoises, you're points are mute!

So, you started threads asking which careers were best overall knowing you thought the IT field was and now you're pissed b/c not everyone agreed with you?

I've glanced at the list of threads you've made as of late, and you are always asking for advice. You will always have jokesters in the room, but there was some good advice given to you. For you to post a title generalizing on the advice giving of the whole of ATOT as awful is off base.
