LOL at the dishes crashing below!
$150? Yeah, right! I'm looking to stay well under $100 if I can help it. That's why the Inova looks so good to me.

Depends on what your primary concern is.

I'd personally go for the surefire, I'm pretty sure even a 5W Luxeon Star won't compare in brightness let alone the 3W in the XO3.

Cool! I didn't notice the T3 before, but I like the more textured surface.

I'm concerned about battery life. This will be going in the car in case of emergency.

If you want throw get an incandescent.

If you want longevity (never worry about bulb) and steady light output with no spectral shift and decline, get LED.

If you want to have both, it's possible but will cost you many times more than your budget allows.

In a way flashlights are similar to computers! 😛

I'm concerned with longevity and durability (i.e. ability to survive bumps, extreme cold, etc.), as this will mostly be staying in the car (I've got a 3-D Mag in the closet here at home).

Avoid the surefire then. Even the standard lamp will only give you an hour of battery life. 20 mins on the HO.

The XO3 would be good for what you want.

According to that site:

T3/XO3 2 hour runtime

Throw 2100
Output 2800

E2 1 hour runtime

Throw 1325
Output 4000

L4 1 hour runtime

Throw 512
Output 5800

Since longevity under very infrequently used conditions seems to be one of your most highly regarded features, you'll need a CR123 powered flashlight.

Not necessarily.

In actuality most of the CR123 powered lights are extremely high output & eat batteries like candy.

A 3 D-cell MAG with an EverLED would be an excellent emergency light.

CR123's definitely do have the shelf life advantage though, you can drop it in your glove box & forget about it for likely the entire time you own the vehicle.

I have the e2e, and it's amazing. It fits nicely in my pocket when I need it and is amazingly bright for its size. On the matter of durability...it should be fine for most needs. I've thrown it around the room, smacking it on random objects to try and dent it and it remained unharmed. I've also tested its water resisting ability and the seals hold up fine. Battery life is sufficient. I'd go with the surefire.

MMMMM the SWEET smell of 123's getting the piss drained out of them! Man if I could run the ship off 123's for a week and store that gas in cannisters I could put AXE outta business!
