Hey all. just a quick vote, no registration needed for this one. Good buddy of mine growing up works for Triangle Land Conservancy in my hometown of Raleigh, NC. His group is trying to acquire a grant form the Great Outdoor Provision company to set aside some river use for nature conservancy and outdoor recreational use.

here's a short description from my buddy:

As part of the upcoming Land Trust Day on June 7, Great Outdoor Provision Company, a local store that sells recreation gear and clothing, has pledged to provide $3,000 through a grant from Patagonia to fund one land conservation project in North Carolina. TLC has submitted our First Island project on the Deep River in Chatham County for consideration. As the name indicates, First Island is an actual island on the Deep River. These grant funds, in conjunction with other funding, would allow TLC to purchase and conserve the island.

Last year NC State Parks authorized the establishment of the Deep River State Trail as a unit of the state parks system. TLC is working with State Parks to develop a paddle trail along the river by protecting important lands for canoe/kayak access as well as sites for camping and other recreational activities. First Island would be a potential canoe/camping site along the trail.

yeah, they need a lot of help. the Rocky Mountain people have 40,000 acres, federal backing...and 40 million bones invested.
