Marketing isn't just about numbers. That's where sales comes in. Marketing is about getting attention to your brand and product, and the fact that it's on national broadcast TV is a good indicator that your marketing has worked.

Whether or not it's intentional, I bet it is, but you would probably never hear anyone affiliated with A&F admit that.

What's the purpose of marketing again ? What's the attention for ? If it's not for the "bottom line", then they have a fuct up business model. Like I said, they've got their recognition... but if it doesn't affect sales positively, then you're ruining your own reputation just to stay mediocre. So again, how's their numbers (after such stunts)? I don't know how you can claim it to be "successful" if their profits are not boosted by this. You ask a bigwig if it was successful if he doesn't see his wallet grow.

Actually, ask any bigwig if they don't mind paying their marketing team to generate bad press because that's all they've been getting. Awesome job... here's more money... shame our name.

Give me $50 and I can be motivated to do the same. Who needs them ?
