if there's some crook on the car that i'm in, i sure as hell don't want to be locked in there with him! that's how the subways are in DC and i don't like it.

I don't see how an AMNY poll about this topic is going to "save the subway."

Although the idea of making moving between cars while the train is in motion illegal is stupid and just a way for the city to make money off of tickets.

I think it is still okay to move between cars if they're not moving???

1. it's not dangerous
2. the subways are pretty much enclosed -- even from car to car.
3. the reason why this is useful is for many reasons, particularly when you need to be in a certain car (e.g. the first 5 subway cars going to south ferry) and you're in the back of the train. instead of leaving the car at every stop, you can walk through the doors (they exist for a reason) to get to the desired cars more quickly.
4. there's no harm to subways, but some people are anal. i suppose they are afraid that it can be abused by young children without supervision (and we already have enough threads here about stupid parenting)

1. It is a national past time
2. allows you to move from a hot car to an air-conditioned car
3. allows you to escape smelly homeless people
4. allows you to escape freaky weird people

We don't need to be saved from ourselves in this way. The benefits of being able to move from car to car far outweighs the safety issues.

It's that idiots idea. He has nothing better to do and want to get on the news so he proposed making movement between cars illegal. For just 24 hours, i wish i can be the official legal executioner of the United States.

While the MTA is proposing it, you are right, the city will make the money off the tickets. But the MTA is not doing it for the money, because they will not get the money.

No, at the South Ferry station, the platform is on a curve and was never extended to handle 10-car trains (as built, local trains only had 5-cars). As such, only the doors in the first 5 cars open at South Ferry. If you are in the back of the train, you will ride around the loop and end up on your way uptown again.

I'd rather make eating and drinking on the subway illegal. It would go a long way towards keeping the cars and stations clean. D.C. Metro does this and their stations are far cleaner than NY's.
