As far as a script, could you write it in PHP or .NET or whatever to basically execute on a server you own, and have it somehow submit their form with a selection you desire? I'm genuinely curious how this sorta thing works.

There was no magic for this one. You don't have to have a server or anything, all you need to do is POST a couple of values to a particular URL. I ran a script in Ruby because that happens to be what I'm using today, but it's just as easy to use Windows scripting or whatever language. Sometimes there is more sophistication required; for example if the server only allows XX submissions from a given IP address I'll get a list of public proxy servers and run through those.

FWIW, the Ruby code I used was 4 lines and would be the same in Windows scripting. It's been a couple of years since I used Windows though.
