hey everyone, I am trying to find a sci fi book that has stuck with me over the years.

I cannot remember too many details, but here goes.

2 worlds that share one atmosphere, can travel between worlds on hot-air balloons(?) Creatures that can float? fly? that were either jellyfish-like or sting ray like (to this day, I picture sting rays floating in the atmosphere). They gave off some kind of poison that was toxic to humans. So they had to go to the other planet to survive.

There was a second book, I remember there were survivors from the first planet who were mad at being left behind. Their skin changed color because of the toxin (cannot remember the color).

I clearly remember the description of using the whatever (hot air balloon) and how they had to flip it when going from one world to the other.

Any help

Thanks,
Xcrown

Wouldn't the two planets have to be orbiting each other extremely fast to avoid collapsing into one another?

What is blue matter?

Also, orbiting at such speeds, wouldn't their atmospheres fly off? The premise of this book is pretty shaky.

I have no idea what blue matter is, but it must be special. Look what red matter did in the new Star Trek movie.
