My wife was just told she has a rather large cyst in her brain. In the center open space portion of the brain (do not know what this means), she been referred to a neurosurgeon. What could I expect from this? I'm kinda flustered right now and not really thinking coherently. The good news that it is benign. If I wanted to do more research on this where would I start?

bah feeling terrible for my wife right now as she's scared shitless about brain surgery.

Wife went to follow-up appt. There will be no need for the surgery. Thank goodness. Thank you all for the kind words, I really appreciate it.

I have no idea, and I imagine it varies tremendously from individual to individual. Honestly, I'd suggest staying away from Google. Who knows what kind of horror stories will pop up, that are only tangentially related to your situation, and not really relevant.

Is it a colloid cyst? That's what I would guess based on your description. I know very little about treatment modalities/recovery/prognosis except to say that I've heard of them removed by a fairly minimally invasive endoscopic technique. If that's possible, I'd say things may go well. I honestly wouldn't even begin to say anything beyond that, but I wish you and your wife the best of luck.

I have some knowledge but not nearly as much as your wifes doctors do, you should ask them.

That said, if it's where i think it is they should be able to drain it without risk, this is pretty much like a biopsy, they drill a hole through the skull insert a needle and empty out fluids and cells. It might sound horrible that it's in the brain but trust me on this, it's probably the best place in the entire body it could be in, it's far from any major blood vessels and in a place where not much can actually go wrong, not even bleeding is a problem with todays methods.
 
Don't self diagnose, see the nuerosurgeon and specialist. These are the people that can get you real answers.
 
Y'know...this is the perfect opportunity to have her "fixed'...Just a bit of "scrambling" and she could be a nice docile, obedient wife...😛


I definitely don't know a dammed thing about the procedure she's facing, but I don't blame her a bit for being scared.

its a matter of breaching ones privacy issue. the fact that the op put "ATOT DOCTORS" for subject line, I came in here expecting lulz.......however a brain cyst is no laughing matter. Think about it. 99.9% of the time when someone post a thread with the title, "atot doctor" or something similar to that, your in for a good time. I came in here prepared to post the victim has AIDS or something......but the OP's wife has a mutha fuckin brain cyst ffs!

There are a couple of doctors on these boards i was hoping to reach. I just couldn't remember their names. This is why I posted this. I am not joking about this, and am reaching out to those who have seen this in their own lives or dealt with it. sorry this touched a nerve with you, but I really don't give a damn. I am going to use every available source possible to help my wife deal with this.

As to the rest of you, I thank you for your kind and caring words. They mean a lot.

Colloid sounds about right. I've done some digging and the possible outcomes range from very mild to the very worst. 🙁
 
I don't know if I can tell you anything to help, but it is what it is. And there's nothing you can really do about it. So be there for her and cherish whatever time you may have with her, whether it's 6 months or 60 years.
