Even my patients who are/were chiropractors or have children that are tell me what a crock MOST of them are and that its rare to find someone that actually helps people. But hey if it works for you who am I to say anything. I never dissuade patients from going but I never encourage it. Mostly because I've seen things like the below articles when I was a medical student:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed?term=chiropractic dissection

hell, even i am vocal about how most of them are idiots and full of shit. however, that doesn't mean that the op's issue couldn't be resolved by one.

True, i know there are bad Chiros out there.
When my "old" Chiro retired, I found another (only other one in my small town), so I made an appt. with him.
First visit: Guy was quite fresh out of Palmer, no X-ray machine, working out of his home, understandable being how expensive setting up a practice is.
Talked for 2 hours about things like Colon Cleansing, coffee enemas, gave me a long list of supplements to take (He was a Distributor), then gave me a very light massage, more of a rub-down than a massage, then gave me an appointment schedule for 3 visits a week for the next 3 months.
I did go to my next scheduled appointment, first thing he asked was if I was going to purchase his supplements. No attempt at any adjustments or even a "rub-down.
I never went back.

Guy I have now is "Old School", he is my new wife's Doc., older guy (about my age:biggrin🙂.
He has an X-ray machine, but he has enough experience that he did his thing, feeling down my spine and measuring my legs etc. and he told ME where I was hurting! Did his adjustments and told me to come back if things started hurting again.
I did have to insist he X-ray my Thoracic area, though, as I have a Missing disk there that my old Doc refused to touch as he said one wrong move & he could do some major damage! He agreed with my old Doc, that missing disk was no place to be adjusting! (I'm still trying to get that issue addressed, that is definitely one for a Neurosurgeon!).

Late to the party. Does your butt hurt, too? It could be the anal optic nerve. To test, pull a hair from your ass and tell us if it brings a tear to your eye!

Anyways, glad it's not a tumor. Sinus infections can be nasty mofos!

My head has hurt on and off since my last post but it has generally less and less (either that or I'm getting used to it). I now have sinus tingling and drainage that's driving me crazy (and making me nauseous). The sinus passage at the back of my throat is irritated and I'll end up with a sore throat if it keeps up. Hopefully, the headache decreases. I think that my sinus passages may be severely infected and finally opening up and letting that crap out (creating the drainage).

Go somewhere and eat lots of fiery horseradish or wasabi. (the hotter, the better) Those usually do a great job clearing the sinuses...

You just described a caffeine withdrawal headache down to every detail in the OP.

Did your wife switch you to decaf without your knowledge? :awe:

The pain behind the eyes, the nausea, the only drug working-is-freaking-ibuprofen.

Yup-yup-yup. OR you increased the dose of blood pressure meds, and your blood pressure/blood sugar are too low.

None of those things happened.

FWIW, my sinuses have been draining (back of throat) for the last 3 days and the pressure has gone to almost zero. My headache has been gone for over 48 hours now. Best I've felt in 5 weeks. Must have been one hell of an infection (took Amoxicillian, a ZPack and Bactrum to get rid of whatever I had).

you have post-nasal drip.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-nasal_drip

the pain in your head should go away shortly.

PND is very annoying; good luck.

Go swimming in the ocean. Salt water does wonders for clearing the sinuses. Be sure to mention this to other swimmers near by.

Squirting 8 oz of salt an water (purchased nasal kit) up my nose with a squeeze bottle does about the same. Besides, too long to drive to the ocean.

Edit: Just had a few tacos with Louisiana hot sauce on them and now my sinuses are draining at all points, lol.

Didn't read the entire thread but I'm pretty sure you have chronic sinusitis. Your PCP will likely give you 875mg augmentin (bid for maybe 20 days) and a course of prednisone for the inflammation.

Actually, gave me a 10 day supply of augmentin (don't know size) and some sort of shot for inflammation, but it didn't work well (I finished the augmentin nearly 2 weeks ago). That's why I had to go to the Neurologist because the PCP thought that it wasn't sinuses at that point and that I might have had a brain tumor or something other causing the headache. The CT scan, ordered by the neurologist, revealed sinus inflammation.

dude, seriously, just see a chiropractor who does muscle work (active release technique). i'm sure there are a few in lexington.

Why? My headache has now left with the start of the drainage. Seems to me that the whatever was causing my problems has finally been whipped and is now leaving my body (post nasal drip as mentioned above).

One hell of an expensive sinus infection though....(assuming that's what is dripping out).

because i can almost guarantee that the problem is still there, even though the symptoms are improving.

compressing the nerves at the top of the neck can cause the same exact headache you had as well as sinus infections by not allowing proper drainage to occur. it's almost the same thing with kids and ear infections. by manipulating the bony structures, you also affect the plasticity of the soft tissues as well as create an endorphin rush, which decreases tissue swelling and can allow for drainage to occur.

obviously, antibiotics would also be necessary because of the bacteria built up as a result of the infection.

i just don't want you to have to go through it all over again and deal with another bad headache and/or sinus infection to accompany it. your body is very tolerant of some things and learns how to deal with certain things. for example, your brain has ways of dealing with constant sensory input of pain from certain kinds of nerve fibers in your body and, eventually, your thalamus sees that pain input as white noise and decides to ignore it (because it's been trying to tell you to fix the problem for a long time and you haven't, so it must not be possible). although the problem hadn't gone away, to you, the pain did... at least until there's a change in the area of innervation causing the pain signals to the brain. that's how people who have chronic headaches (more than 15 headaches per month... you shouldn't have more than 4 per year) live.

If he had given you what I mentioned you probably wouldn't have needed all that work up. The shot he gave you was probably decadron (steroid) or something similar which is only good for short term relief. Regardless it seems you're better but sinusitis tends to come back.

I'm starting to agree with you. Headaches are still there and moved to my temples. I went back for a followup visit to the neurologist and she put me on a steroid pill as well as Flonaise (spelling?). She wants me to do a nasal rinse 2 times per day. She seems to think my upper sinuses are completely blocked and full of crap (based on CT scan and symptoms).

She said that I'm going to an ENT if this doesn't fix it in 2 weeks. Said if that discharge starts happening after taking the stuff, call my regular doctor and get put on a STRONG antibiotic to knock this crap out of me.

*sigh* 9 weeks and counting *sigh*

sorry to hear about your sinus problems continuing to plague you.

I know how annoying it can be. Mine go crazy when the air is too dry. Infection is even worse with all the pain. It even makes my teeth ache and that pisses me off.

I also have eustachian tube issues that are exacerbated by sinus issues. Makes my ears hurt like hell.

I hope you get better soon.

It's been that kind of winter having the sinus area full of crap the whole season.

Lots of hot spice has been working best.

All the medicine both prescribed and over the counter don't do shit.

i honestly don't understand why you just won't visit a quality chiropractor in your area... but, hey, it's your time, health, and money...

Find one that won't insist on creating monthly recurring revenue for himself.

An adjustment or two will feel fantastic and could likely fix your sinus condition.
