On Wednesday I tweaked my knee a little bit. I'm thinking some rest and I'll be fine, but I'm very paranoid about knee injuries as I've torn my miniscus and ACL in my right knee.

This particular injury occurred in my left knee though, while playing soccer. I cannot pinpoint exactly when it happened, but I do know I continued to play on it the rest of the game without any significant pain. After the game as I was walking in from my car I pivoted on my leg and felt the very sharp pain and my knee was unstable.

Since then I've been testing it. Normal walking/jogging is fine. When I twist it on its own, there seems to be no pain. But when I am putting weight through the leg and rotate left or right (It seems more often inward/right) I feel a very sharp pain and the leg gives out. There is no noticeable swelling and minor stiffness.

My guess is either an lcl or mcl sprain. Hopefully mild. Only reason I ask is that like I said earlier I tore my acl when I was younger and had years of problems with it. Turns out I was playing sports on a partially torn ACL all through high school before having reconstructive surgery a few years ago.

And before anyone says it, yes I know a doctor would be able to give me a better idea, but I don't feel like checking into it yet unless it appears more serious or doesn't get better. It could be a minor sprain. I'm just paranoid :p

BTW, I need to be better by next Wednesday!

So what do you guys think? Anyone have any ideas?

Very possibly another meniscus tear, the pivoting being a giveaway for that, but it could be a minor collateral ligament. If you're not having a ton of swelling the odds are that you don't have a major tear of a cruciate, but then again I got my medical degree on the internet, so hopefully a doctor can give a proper diagnosis :)

I'd give it a few days. I'd in fact make an appointment now but cancel it if you end up not needing it, but if this isn't clearly getting a lot better soon I'd see a doctor because you want to be careful on a busted knee. To continue on will potentially cause a lot more knee damage.

Thanks for the advice skoorb. You seem to be an expert in just about ever area :p

I guess that means I'm playing goalie on Wednesday :(

Goalie is fun, but Ive scored 9 goals in our first two games. The team needs me at forward!

Also I'm open to more opinions...

I was gonna make this same call. My mother actually had some very similar symptoms. She didn't remember one real moment where it started to hurt, but rather she noticed it when she pivoted with weight on it. The physical therapist diagnosed it as a medial meniscus tear.

The only real way to cope with this is time and physical therapy. You'll need to do some pretty specific exercises to help strengthen all the muscles around it in a way that won't actually put a significant strain on the knee itself. I'd go to the doctor or orthopedist and get a prescription for the physical therapist. You're not gonna be playing for AT LEAST a couple of weeks, let alone Wednesday. You'll only make it worse. Sorry to hear about it though, man. I know how frustrating injuries are.
