Someone told me that if you are ever forced to pull out money from the ATM machine and you punch in your pin backwards, it will notify the police that you are being robbed. Can someone confirm that this is true?

Hmm, I heard that over here (The Netherlands), they want to not use the number 9999 any more and use that as an emergency number. You'll get the money, the card'll be swallowed by the machine and the police will be notified of the event. Also, the little camera in the machine will pass everything through to the police.. I don't know if it's true, but it sounds like a good idea.

EDIT: Wait, now that I think about it.. That's a bad idea.. If someone finds your pass, they can just get a mask or something and get a one-time transaction for free..

Hmmm...

Sounds like a horrible idea... someone finds your card and doesnt know the pin so they just hit 9999 and grab the money and bolt before the cops get there.

Hehe :p. Alas, knowing our MP he'll probably ignore that fact and do it, regardless. Then, after countless of people have lost a lot of money, he'll say he's sorry but refuse to make it right again. Like always.. :(

It's kinda partially true, for those of you who just posted the snopes article and probably didn't read more than 4 words of it. Some guy developed the system, and had a workaround for palindromes (although it doesn't say what) and there is actually a law in Kansas that says ATMs need to do this.
