Atlas MMO

KMFJD

'
Atlas is a first-person (also playable in third-person) pirate-themed survival MMO with an ambitious scale.
The developer boasts over 40,000 players in the same world, all exploring it simultaneously. Grapeshot aims to create massive-scale battles and a living world, which is where the scale comes in. Atlas features exploration gameplay on land, as well as sea combat and ship-to-ship encounters.'

from the makers of Ark.....cause what we need is another alpha mmo payed release 🙂

You had me until "from the makers of Ark." While I love me some Ark, have close to 750hrs played, it has got the be one of the most poorly coded games ever. Poor performance and bugs galore. The same poor performance and bugs that have been present since the alpha release. On the bright side there should be plenty of content, they are good at that.

Looks interesting, will there be a monthly fee and if playing on a PVP server is your stuff "safe" when you log out?

**I know early access and things can change & stuff

from pcgamer article - https://www.pcgamer.com/atlas-mmo/

Friendly fire is enabled
The hydra is a mini boss, you have to kill it by destroying all of its heads but the heads will regrow if you are too slow.
A and D control the rudder, holding shift while pressing A and D change the direction of the sails
You can put beds on your ship but the amount of beds is limited by your ships level
There are horses in the game and the writer of the article claims you can use the horse to jump onto an enemy ship
There is a mini-game while repairing damage to your ship, if you succeed you repair it faster.
Ships apparently take damage while out at sea
After you defeat a ghost ship you can recruit the NPCs that were enslaved Treasure is automatically distributed across nearby crew
Dragons are temporary tames Aging will just be cosmetic at launch
The game uses an newer version of the unreal engine compared to ark and it uses better "streaming methods"

I haven't found much info on this other than what i posted, if they can get server travel working seamlessly or with just a little hicup will be a major plus. Looking forward to a pvp game with decent ship combat, there will be a pvp and a pve server.

'It's entire world is more like 1,200 different ARK servers stitched together on a grid spanning several biomes that range from frozen arctic wastes to white sand mediterranean beaches. Each grid contains a few individual, handcrafted islands and when you sail away from those to another grid of different islands you are also seamlessly transferring to a different server node. '

Life is Feudal had something similar to this and switching across server on the grid was extremely buggy, and extremely laggy when there where large fights. If i can get a month or two of gameplay out of it i'll be happy, i'm going in blind and expecting it to be buggy. It's listed at $30 in the article.

I’m intrigued provided PVE isn’t too much hand holding and PVP isn’t a grief fest.
Why do mmo’s have so much problem finding middle ground?

I haven’t played a good MMO since DAOC and a pirate game since Pirates! So this is interesting.

I dunno how old that video is but it looks like you can jump into early access now. But he said it would be there for 2 years which is a little concerning.

Early release starts on the 19th

-We try not to have arbitrary rules in Atlas, with a few exceptions, but if that became an issue we might have to make that dangerous in certain ways. We have, for example, the ability to trigger hurricanes. They push players out of those regions – and that system was actually designed for when the areas become overcrowded, so if it starts to run poorly a hurricane is triggered that moves players to the side. That’s how we can handle so many players – we thought ‘what happens when all 40,000 players try to cram into one corner of the map, we’ve got to have something to deal with that’.

Interesting way to get rid of zergs

That's a pretty funny way to deal with a crowd. Would have been better if they didn't say anything.

It's supposed to launch in a couple of hours, guess I'll miss out till later which might not be a bad thing.

As for griefing that is caused by the players and not the game. Even with hard punishment to players that enjoy griefing other...the griefers still grief.

This game looks pretty cool. I really enjoyed Ark with my daughter so this might be the perfect game for us to jump into.
