Atlanta people- What is that giant potato?

I was flying into Atlanta the other week, and I noticed a huge mound of rock that looked like a potato sliced in half with the flat side down. It was less than ten minutes away and had one vertical cliff face. On top were several buildings and radio/TV antennas. It was weird because it was flat everywhere else. What the heck was that?

Did you see any confederate generals carved on the side? Then it was stone mountain.

It's Stone Mountain. I live a few miles from it and do a lot of my bike miles in the park.
