There's a dressing out there by Newmans Own.. Light Italian Dressing.. I think it has 0 carbs and it's pretty damn tasty. :)

Most of the blue cheese dressings are very low carb. There is a honey mustard put out by Atkins that is good also. Green beans are not bad since when you subtract the fiber they don't have any more carbs than spinach, broccoli, or cauliflower. Cabbage works well in a lot of casserole type dishes. Tortilla Factory tortillas have 3 grams of carbs after the fiber carbs are subtracted, these work well for a bread substitute. Grilled fish or chicken with some of the above veggies in 1 cup servings will keep you below 20 carbs for your induction. Check out the web for other recipes for burritos, chili, lasagna without pasta, etc., with other peoples ideas it really is not hard, you just have to read the labels.

Why don't you throw some fish in there too? It would be a nice change of pace from the usual meat, meat, and more meat.

Throw in 30+ minutes of cardio 4-5 times a week and some weight lifting 3 days a week.

You will loose weight and be in better overall shape than the atkins diet and will also keep off the weight longer.

(EDIT) Also, when you eat breads, go for whole grain. Avoid white bread. Don't drink non-diet sodas. Cut out candy and junk like that.

If you read the South Beach Diet book, it goes into detail about how the AHA diet is less effective in the long term.

hmmmm, been on this diet 10 days, lost no weight at all-

today I had 8 sausage links (free at work), 5 strips of bacon, 2 hot dogs, 2 prunes,
1/4 granola bar, and a chocolate protein drink, sigh.

My friend told me today that his gf's dad lost 16 lbs in 2 weeks! I'm 50lbs. over,
can't lose a thing. I exercised and cut diet for 5 months, lost 13.5 lbs, but didn't
work out for 2 months, gained 11.5 lbs back, lost 4 in the last month before
starting Atkins by reducing intake.

Here's my daily intake:

Breakfast: 8oz OJ or yogurt, cereal bar
Lunch: Chinese take-out (usually some kinda meat over rice) or 2 burgers protein-style w/ no sauce
Snack 1: apple
Snack 2: 8-12oz carrots
Snack 3: another apple or some different fruit with lotsa fiber, nothing pulpy
Dinner: 2-3 servings of veggies (green beans, spinach, etc), 2 servings of pasta if I didn't have rice for lunch else 2 turkey burgers wrapped in lettuce

Plenty of carbs, lots of fruits and veggies, very little fat, some protein. 15lbs in 4 weeks, almost 2 inches off my waist, been keeping the weight off, and my metabolism is through the roof. Trying to lose another 10 and I'll be very happy. 30 min of cardio 5 days a week when my knee doesn't hurt, 3 days a week when it acts up.

I lost 20 lbs in 6 weeks and I was never hungry. I never counted carbs though, just eliminated sugar, white flour, bread, starchy fruits and vegetables.

It's not just about eating the right foods, it's about eating moderate portions too and excercising.

Read some Atkins books about recommended portion sizes and only eat until your satiated.

Success in weight loss is like success in anything else in life: it requires some dedication, will power and stick-to-it-ivness.

Good luck!

Edit: Here's my advice:

Basically, eat good quality meat, fish, or tofu, non-starchy fruits and vegetables eggs, oatmeal, cheese and nuts. Avoid sugar, white bread, white rice, potatoes, corn, baked goods, fruit juice, soda, cereals, pretzels, rice cakes. etc. Avoid low-fat foods since they are usually loaded with sugar.

Personally, here's what I usually eat:

Breakfast: 1/2 cup oatmeal or Fiber 1 cereal with 1/2 cup soy milk and a 1/2 cup fruit, 1/2 cup whole yogurt, 1 protein shake
Lunch: Spinach salad with 6 oz of turkey breast and blue cheese dressing, apple with peanut butter
Dinner: 6 - 8 oz of meat, fish, or tofu, fruit, vegetable, cheese, 1/2 cup whole yogurt, 1 protein shake before bed

Snack: nuts, cheese, hard-boiled egg.

I also do about 40 minutes of cardio a day.

If you have a lot of weight to lose, you'll probably need to reduce the carbs in the above diet.

Atkins definitely worked for me:

good job man... however, my advice is try eating 6 times a day. Cardio is the key. I lost 30 lbs in 7 weeks by 1 hour cardio everyday w/out limiting my food intake.

One table spoon of peanut butter could screw up that diet for a good few days. So can cheese and bread.

It's a very disciplined diet. That's the trade off for eating so much meat.

But by this time next year or in a few months, everybody on AT will be skinny ;) Good luck!

actually, peanut butter and bread can, but cheese won't.
Most cheese have 0 or 1 g of carbs, so cheese is not a bad food for Atkins followers.

2 Tbsp. of peanut butter has:

16 g fat (2g saturatd fat)
7 g of total carbs (2g of fiber and 2g of sugars) = 5g net carbs
7 g of protein

200g of calories

I like peanut butter (when eaten with an apple it satisfies my sweet tooth) and it doesn't affect my ablity to maintain my desired weight, so I don't have a problem with it.

I could eat anything I wanted until I turned 30 and got married.

Wife's cooking + less activity = weight gain.

When I was eating dorm food I weighed 145 lbs and could easily bench 225 lbs.

You don't stay 18 forever though.

Heres mine:
breakfast: 2 eggs over hard
lunch: chicken or turkey wrap
dinner: wheat pasta or wheat pizza or some meat product
drinks: water
veggies thrown in with meals wherever possible (wheat pizza w/ broccoli, etc)

I lost 70 pounds doing this. When I didn't feel like eggs, I just had an apple.

ok, 11 days on this diet, and I have only gained fat, and lost quite a bit of muscle,
and my appetite has gone WAY up to what it was before.

today I ate

1 prune
1 apple
5 hot dogs
1 protein shake
1 atkins bar
1 big slice of pressed turkey

prune= not allowed
apple = not allowed
hot dogs = generally not allowed, check nutritional info, since its a processed meat... and you Definatly better not have any buns or ketchup on it
atkins bar = not allowed during first two weeks
pressed turkey= same as hot dog

you're doing it based on popular misconceptions of this diet... must actually read the book... check out the Acceptable foods listings at www.atkins.com too, and strictly adhere to that for 2 weeks.. it's a HUGE difference from what you've been trying to do...

water is also key... drink at least 1/2 your body weight in ounces a day... i.e. if you're 200 lbs, drink at least 100 ounces of water

its amazing how all the fat you ate flushes out of your body through your #1, plus most likely a bit more of your own fat reserves...

???? Didn't know you could eat hot dogs on atkins. 5 is overdoing it me thinks.

Did Atkins for a month, blood pressure didn't agree with it (family history of blood pressure and diabetes, the protein overload was too much of a shock). If you're insisting then try this:

1 apple + 2 eggs for breakfast
1 atkins bar for mid-morning snack
1 can tuna w/ fatfree Miracle Whip for lunch, maybe a couple wheat crackers (try not to go over 1 serving)
1 protein shake for mid-afternoon snack
1 8oz chicken breast w/ steamed veggies for dinner (at least 4 hours before you go to bed)

Seafood, white meat, and eggs are great for atkins. Try to stay away from heavy fat stuff like pork and red meat. You want to get your body used to digesting protein and consuming less carbs. Only prob is that if you introduce too many carbs back into your diet too soon, it'll get stored in your body automatically as fat and your weight goes right back up. That's why you see a lot of atkins dieters lose fast and gain back fast. If you're going on atkins, it's a permanent change in your eating habits, don't treat it as a 1-2 month miracle diet. Oh and moderate. The only thing you can't have too much of is water; everything else you gotta show some restraint (5 hot dogs is really bad).

And work out. Eating isn't gonna get it done. Burn more calories than you intake, only way to lose those pounds.

*sigh* too bad you can't have carrots on atkins. They're actually a great way to lose weight. After eating like half a pound of em, you really can't eat anything for another 2-3 hours (ugh). There's so many ways to make veggies taste good. Vinegar + olive oil is a great healthy salad dressing, but again don't overkill. I usually stir fry my green beans with garlic and red chili sauce. Broccoli and cauliflower I boil for a couple minutes to soften em up and I eat em with oyster sauce (atkins no-no, but ok for my diet). Spinach goes good in salads, can also blanch and sprinkle on some minced garlic and olive oil for flavor. For work I get lazy and I just nuke my spinach in tupperware with some garlic.

Don't do the 1/2 bread thing on induction... remember, its to BREAK your addiction to sugar. The beer on induction idea is just stupid... alcohol contains excess ketones, which your body will use before it uses fat. Dont drink on induction.

Theres a reason they call induction the "steak & salad" phase. Basically, all you can eat are veggies, meat, and cheese. Watch the peanut butter, most peanut butter is high in carbs. Avoid nuts/fruit on induction, but add them after the 2 weeks. Ranch dressing is A-OK.

http://atkins.com/Archive/2001/12/15-464579.html

hot dogs are ok according to the chart, ate so many because I was out of meat.

that's the first time I had an atkins bar or an apple, my sugar/choco craving was in overdrive.

the prunes are necessary, otherwise can't go to the bathroom, though I only have 1 per
day now. Apple also worked for that.

And what is wrong with diet coke- atkins.com says its fine? it only recommneds against
caffeine and nutra sweet based on craving factors and health safety, although I'm not taking in either other than one diet coke in 2 weeks. I drink so much water every day, it isn't funny.

Is the website innacurate/varies from the book?

All the threads on this site said hot dogs were fine, just look at the package for sugar
and carbs, which I did http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/

think I've reached my limit as of last night, I'm so much fatter, tired, burned out, I feel too bad
to even work out..........sigh oh well

UPDATE: The latest, today is Friday

Thursday:
Breakfast: steak and eggs for breakfast.
Lunch: Salad with cheddar cheese, Italian dressing, and brocolli I think. Hamburger pattie with cheese, lettuce, and some onion
Dinner: Ribeye steak, brocolli, and creamed cauliflower. The Ruby Tuesday said the steak had 13 g of carbs.
Drank only water

Friday:
Breakfast: steak and eggs
Lunch: Was forced to eat out at a Chinese buffet, because of travelling. Ate no rice, egg rolls, or anything I knew was heavy in carbs. What I did eat, a salad, buffalo chicken wings, green peas, chicken w/ brocolli, cheese oyster, those chicken things on a stick, some sesame chicken.
Dinner: ??

I know the Chinese probably put me over 20 g carbs, but there's not much you can do when you're on the road.

About peanut butter: My peanut butter has 3 g of carbs in 2 tbsp. I don't understand how that isn't allowed on induction.

2nd Update: I weighed myself Thursday night after the steak dinner. 221 pounds. Weighed myself again this morning: 220 pounds. I weighed 218 pounds on Wednesday. I don't know what the f*ck is going on. I do know that I haven't had a solid sh1t in a few days. I'll have to go out this afternoon and buy some wheat bran or some of those psyllium husks.
